Big Gap Between Air Filter and Cowling Plate. Help!

This weekend I changed my spark plugs thanks to a DIY on the forum. Everything went well until I was trying to put the air filter back on. It wont go on properly. There is a big gap between the cowling plate and air filter (pictures attached). When I was putting it on, it was a tight fit. I am more than sure that it isn't on there properly. I think it's the cowling plate. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
