I had the option to lemon my car a while back and if I did I would have gone straight for an FRS/BRZ or a used 370Z. But I stayed with my 1 for a few reasons, The community here is awesome! I managed to get a full inspection out of my dealership and *knock on wood* they found no other issues. My DC2 is my commuter, I didn't want to get another car for feeling nimble. I came for the POWAAAA of the I6TT

Why would you want to sell it when you would end up paying either the same or more for something less? That's exactly the realization I came to.

Forget 370Z, go to Z4M

The rear seats on the BRZ/FRS are useless.

With proper suspension work, the car is incredibly easy to toss around. Alot of BRZ/FRS cars are showing up for SCCA Solo events and putting down good times.

Too bad they fitted prius tires on the car.

Oh god, not this again.......

The OEM tires are great for having fun and getting good FE. Want something sticky for the track, change them.

In a low-HP car, you really don't need something like PSS. It makes no sense. It's overkill for the street unless the cat has trouble puttong the power down. It's much more fun when the less grippy tires get closer to their limits, you're right.

Z4M and 370Z aren't even that close, the Z4M is way more hardcore then a soft 370Z.

Amen.

The whole point of cars like the BRZ/86/Miata is to have your thrills on the road without going fast enough to attract the attention of the Police.

The skinny tyres are a part of that as pointed out by many people.

If you want something with more power, look elsewhere. That class of lightweight sports car/roadster is not for you.

I don't know how it is now but for sure when the BRZ hit the market last year, many dealers were insane. A frd of mine who was seriously considering the car went to our local Subaru with me on one Saturday afternoon to check the car out. Turned out, not only they denied his test drive request but the salesman also said to us that they wouldn't sell the car they have at that momment and want $6000 none-refundable deposit to go onto a 6 month no option wait list. That means when it's your turn, you take what comes in that time or else your $6000 is wasted. I had to ask if he was serious about that a few times.

OP, I am pretty sure the BRZ is a fun to drive car and if you are in no need to finance it, going with a Japanese auto maker makes very much sense. They have very different approaches when it comes to sell/lease/finance cars comparing to German auto makers especially BMW which always seem to have better lease deal.

I own the FR-S, its exactly the same car as the BRZ except it costs less and does not have nav or dual climate control as an option. I bought mine for the track, and its a sweet little track monster. I actually clock a faster lap time around my local track in my FR-S and all i have are suspension, brakes, and boltons. Its amazing what a 182 WHP car can do when it only weighs 2450 pounds (my car has light weight reduction). People forget that heavier cars with tons of power are still boats, compensating a fat car with horsepower is like giving an alcoholic cocaine to sober him up. Here are a couple of pics of my car as well as some videos and a review/build thread of the car when i bought it, go through all my build thread and you will see how i progressed and what parts worked for the car and which didnt. My car currently is sitting at the dealer awaiting a new engine since the old one blew up, not the cars fault but the shitty tuner that did work on my car, it went lean and kaboom.

Harris Hill Road Mazda Raceway Lap times in my current and ex cars:

E-92 M3 DCT Stock: 1:29.9
987 Porsche Boxster-S Stock: 1:31.3
Scion FR-S (weight reduction, suspension, brakes, boltons, R comps): 1:27.1
2010 Nissan GT-R (AP Rotors, pads, fluid, 590WHP): 1:26.1
2011 C63 AMG ( NT-05'S, brake mods, 420WHP): 1:29.5

Have you looked at the WRX's? Good power, sweet noises, 4 seats and great handling. An STI would put a huge smile on your face I promise.

sick build OP....i was down at VIR this past week and really want a cheap track car...but $20k in mod's is a bit much for that!

Thinking about either the BRZ with some coil overs and BBK OR a Focus ST...(aftermarket is light for Ford right now)...

All reports indicate that a '14 STi version will sport a turbo producing anywhere from 230 to 280hp.
Bad news? You'll probably have to deal with one of those silly-ass Subaru boy-racer spoilers

Toyota has a 10 to 1 deal, every 10 they sell subaru gets to sell 1, thats why dealers are acting like they are ferrari's, if the car was toyota badged I would be interested, I'm not interested in scion and being associated with all those clown cars they make and sell under that brand.

Insurance is likely also to be pricer I believe over 80 percent of Scion drivers are under 25. Or something similar.

Just like when the 370z came out and Nissan dealers wouldn't let us even sit in one even though we pulled up in a very well modified msport 335i.

I was considering a 128i as a small DD to drive on the canyons to work but got a 2013 BRZ instead. I really like it! I've had it for a couple months now and taken it to the track 3 times. It's such a fun little machine and gets great mileage. It's comfortable, looks cool, and best of all, it makes every little errand and trip a lot of fun.

I actually think it's more fun to drive than my E46 or E90 M3's when outright speed is not the objective- since its limits are lower it's the chassis is more explorable on the street. The tactile feel of the steering is better than my S2000 roadster (still have that one too) and just as good "but different" from the E90 M3. It has a faster ratio than the E46 by far and about the same ratio as the E90 M3.

I posted more about it in another thread; if you search my name and BRZ you'll find my thoughts.

VS. a 128i, I think the powertrain and suspension setup are more suited to track and hard driving. The throttle response is better than a 28i car and the car really carries a neutral set through a corner. As a daily driver on normal roads and freeways, the 128i would be far better since the BRZ isn't quiet, refined, or smooth like a BMW. For what I wanted, the BRZ was a better choice. Depends on where and how you're driving, really.

Actually the FR-S and BRZ dont sound like a boxer engine because they have equal length headers. I think it actually sounds pretty sweet. A simple solution is to get equal length headers for a wrx.

I'm aware the GT86 sounds different - I like it as well. He was talking about the WRX and that's what I quoted him on. But anyway a car that sounds broken from the factory before you shell out a grand on headers is a real masterpiece.
