1st Year Wedding Aniversary - London

Hi Guys, taking the mrs to london in a couple of weeks for our wedding anniversary.

Staying in the Royal Horseguards for 2 nights which will be nice, also booked clos maggiore in covent garden for the first night, and West end show for the 2nd night.

Can anyone recommend any good things to do in the day? also recommend a couple of nice places to eat, nothing to expensive as we are already going somewhere nice on the first night.

thanks

congratulations on the first year, we are getting close as well - 7th Sept.

What about the new London Dungeons? my Mrs wants to go, its nothing too serious and probably give you a few laughs.

I want to go up the Shard, but don't fancy the price or the ques.

For her birthday in May, we went to a great place at Liverpool Street, called Vertigo42, which is a champagne bar that looks out over London.
They do afternoon tea, but we just had a glass of bubbly at dusk, then made out way over to Covent Garden see a show afterwards.

Been to Vertigo....very nice view of London.

I think that London is a bit over rated...especially the clubs!

If you want tourist stuff, then London eye maybe?

Few suggestions, but it really depends on what you want fella!

If going for a more chilled out outlook: I would strongly recommend a walk through St. James' park and maybe on through to Hyde park, given that you are staying near Horseguards.

A coffee on the Serpentine is a decent enough way to spend a bit of time

If you want an all action tour of London, in short - it's tough due to the scale of the Big Smoke. A tour bus is one way, but... eeeenh.. Far too touristy for most UK citizens I'd have thought. I'd just walk a key part of it.

Oxford Street if your wallet would stretch to it! Crazy busy of course

In Southwark, Borough market is a great shout for a "different side" to London. It's a great great lunch spot with loads of street food vendors, some of whom offering literally sensational food. It's a short walk from there to either the Tower of London across the river, or the Shard on your side.

Brick lane is another stop if you want to see something different - and there are someb brilliant curries to be had. It's very vibrant indeed as is all of Shoreditch.

St. Katherines Dock is another very very cool part of London.

For an alternate London walking Tour I'd recommend train to Wapping, Walk through St. Katherines dock area to Tower Bridge, cross over, walk along the South Bank past the Globe Theatre, Blackfriars and then down to the Shard or continue going to the Eye, then check out the market if it's not closed already, grab a pint / glass of wine..
Loads of nice places around that part of London

Hamstead Heath is another parky shout! Nice area, just watch out for Doggers at night haha. Hamstead is a very nice "classy" area that the OH would appreciate probably.. Bit expensive though.

Sorry, no direction at all to any of the above as it's hard without knowing what kind of thing you're after.. But hope I've helped a little bit!

If you do find yourselves in Borough Market, you ABSOLUTELY MUST seek out Gelateria 3BIS at 4, Park Street SE1 9AB. Simply the best ice-cream ... or should that be isa crema !! And open late IIRC.

Curry at Lahore kebab house in commercial road.... and a stroll down bricklane on sunday with a detour to columbia flower market.

Bricklane on sunday is a great place to kill a few hours walking about - loads of stalls etc.

One thing you should DEF do is the river taxi from embankment to the 02 ... great way to see london's sights and damn cheap. Then you can do the emirates cable car thing and come back to central using the tube.
