Overheated washer pump?

Driving home I was purposely running the washer tank dry as it had gone all congealed - so held the stalk continuously for a few minutes, now, it's stopped working all together.

Is there some sort of shut off on it if you overheat it & it'll start working again After a period of time or something?
Or have I fucked the pump?
Please help!

Can you still hear the pump working?
If so, it is probably just blocked. If you cant hear it working - probably buggered!

It will only let you hold it on for so long before the safety cuts in. I had this last week when I was emptying it for the same reason. I just syphoned it out in the end and stuck the old stuff in the works van. Don't worry.

I just disconnect the pipe near the scuttle panel on drivers side, water comes out quite rapidly and empty's the bottle fairly quick

Quite normal. It will only run for a certain time and then shut off so it doesn't cause damage.

if its all congealed, why on earth would you run all that crap through the motor, pipework and nozzles?
thats just asking for trouble down the line now that all the crap that was in the bottle is now in the motor/pipes and nozzle...

How do you think i knew it was congealed in the first place

Having changed the washer pump for a tenner at the weekend on the girlfriends 123d i'm not afraid to get my hands dirty.

I'd rather not do the job again like, but i'll run the risk of the wallpaper paste runing through the pump - i did it last night anyway & now have Autoglyms finest in there so should be reet now
