**WARNING**162s w/ SP do not work in snow!

I wanted to let everyone know that I drove home last night in my 330i with SP and it was like driving a sleigh. The car did not want to stop or start in the light snow we got in Michigan. I was trying to get up small hills and the car did not want to go up or better yet had no grip what so ever. I am going to attach a thread that contains the same rims and tires I purchased and will be putting on this Friday. Until then, I am driving my wife's Taurus to and from work. Please don't take a chance in the snow with the 162s. They DO NOT work in snow and ice. Hope this helps!

Yea, basicly never try to drive with summer tires (the sports pacakge comes with summer tires) in any kind of snow at all. Some people risk it and go with the summer tires, but inevitably the car will loose control and you will damage something or someone.. Winter tires are worth the small investment.. and then you can run circles around SUVs, its fun.

Glad you made it home safely. Summers = Death even in less than an inch of the white stuff.

Again... I was expecting a repsonse like 'Do not put hands on hot burner. You will burn your hands.'

It says explicitly that summer tires are not meant for driving on snow or ice. What happens when you do so? well, you have no control over your car.

On a side note, I have the performance AS tires on my 162's, and had a little fun in the snow this past weekend. Tires are amazing in the snow. Not as good as winter tires, but sure do the trick...

i had my first winter experience with the 330i zsp summer tires. totally worthless, in fact, i couldn't even make it home. i hobbled my car to a parking lot downtown and walked the rest of teh way home.

we had a snow storm here in cincy, and of course my winter tires aren't here yet (show up tomorrow actually), so i had to try and get home on my summer wheels. needless to say i had a horrific time. most people were handling it ok, going slow, but my car had ZERO traction. i sat and switched from dsc to dts, drove in 1st, etc, ANYTHING to get a bit of traction, but it was totally pointless. i couldn't get up the hill to my parking spot so i had to traverse various downtown streets to find a lot to ditch my car and walk.

so anyone out there thinking they can make it ok with the 330i summer sport tires, no way. i live in cincy and i had my doubts about needing winters, but today i realized my purchase was totally worth it. now i just need to get the things mounted before more snow hits next week.

NO KIDDING !!! THANKS, I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED that high performance summer tires would leave you stranded on snow.

Any other advice? Is smoking really bad for your health? Will bubble gum be hard to get off your soles if you step into it?

there have been many questions around about HOW bad they may be in winter, especially for people who aren't quite north enough for horrible winters. winter tires in cincinnati are questionable as our winters tend to be fairly mild and may not warrant the investment. i figured i'd share my experience for anyone in a similar area thinking it may be helpful if anyone is wonder if they are really necessary for people not living in the snowbelt.

Yes, well then THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR INCREDIBLY HELPFULL POST. It really is incredibly important to disect the degrees of uselessness of high perferomance summer tires on snow. Incredibly useless or merely very useless.

Btw.: calling me an asshole makes you look bad, not me

If you canīt stand the heat....

the degree of uselessness of these tires is in fact a concern for some people. not all of us live in the snowbelt or canada and our winters are hit and miss. obviously these wheels can't even handle that, so i figured i'd share my experience. if you can survive a day or two of snow per-season, why the hell would you drop 1500 on a set of wheels? this question has come up so i figured i'd share my experience, if you think its useless THEN DON'T READ IT. you're obviously incredibly bored if you have to nitpick through posts and point out the ones you personally find useless. perhaps calling you an asshole was out of line, but i'm just calling it like i see it. if you think my post was useless, yours was even more-so.
