335is N54 question

Coming from a 2011 335i with the n55, to a 2013 335is with n54, do I now need to worry about the hpfp failures? Is this something that still happens? Any 335is owners had it fail?

I don't think it's worth the money going from a 11 335i to a 13 335 is. If I were you I would consider a m3. Not worth the risk IMO. If I was in your shoes i would definitely consider a m3.

No failure yet at 9000 miles. Curious to know as well if others have had problems.

Dude, you are fine with that car and no you don't have to worry about the HPFP, just don't go cheap on the gas.

HPFP or LPFP on this car has lower complain than the previous none 335is N54 cars

I am 37k miles and no HPFP or LPFP issues, and I beat the hell out of the car on the track, and its DD. I don't think you will find anyone with a 335is who has tracked it as much as I have.

Drive the car as it was made to be driven.....enthusiastically

21K miles...no problems so far. But that doesn't mean all issues have been resolved and it's going to remain bulletproof. It may be an N54T, but it's still an N54. :-)

Sorry forgot to mention that my 2011 335i was totaled a month ago by a sewage drain sticking out of the middle of the road. I would have kept that baby for 10 years if I could have. Just figured since my insurance really came through and paid almost 8k over blue book for her, id replace her with a custom "is" instead of just doing the same package I did 2 years prior.

okay you got a bad 335... we get it

not every one is bad. especially not the new ones

no need to tell every single person on the forum to stay away from them just because your four year old model experienced problems.

17K on mine all but 1500 with a tune, no problems. Not worked as hard as BuraQ's but it does get regular WOT workouts.

Get the 335is... you'll be glad you did.

I did a lot of research on this issue before buying my '09 335i. The HPFP installed after about March 2010 no longer fail prematurely. My original HPFP failed at 11k miles with the P.O. The current one has been working fine for almost 42k miles.

The story I was told is that BMW was getting ready to sue Bosch for all the trouble they'd had with the N54 HPFP. To avoid this, Bosch set up a new factory in Germany to make the new HPFP's and those new versions are the problem free ones.

Apparently the original N54 HPFP was made in China (no reliable sources on this info).

If the N54 was really such a bad engine, why did it stay in production 3 years after the introduction of the N55? And specifically why is it now only offered on "special edition (iS)" models and the 1 Series M Coupe?

The N55 is a better engine for the average BMW buyer. It has more torque at very low rpm, better fuel economy (Valvetronic) and lower emissions (one turbo = one pre-cat that warms up faster).

The N54 was an "almost M" engine that was detuned and put into various "normal" model BMW for a few years until they developed the N55. It appears that the new M3 engine will be a "super tuned" N54 development.

17k on mine and not single problem other than that recall for the battery connector. Still puts a smile on face everyday stock. When I'm feeling an itch for a new ride I'll just tune her and hopefully that will satisfy my thirst.
