Stock IC temps

75F in LA today. Ran around in traffic a bit. After a while, I noticed the engine felt a little sluggish, probably heat soaked. It even pinged a few times accelerating from a stand still. Opened up my torque app and noticed that even with the traffic moving reasonably well, my IATs were around 120F! That's 45F over ambient! Is that normal when you're averaging 15-20MPH with traffic lights and not really pushing it at all?

I would say so. On my stock I seen up to 140+ IATs on my 3rd gear pull logs. Cali weather doesn't help.

On the stock IC it’s not at all odd to see charge temps with that type of delta over ambient. Just wait until it really gets hot and humid, 85-95 type weather, then you’ll really notice how feeble the OE part is. It’s a joke IMO-not sufficient for bone stock 9psi N54s once the ambient temp gets over 50 degrees or so. There were times last summer on the OE intercooler when I’d be in gridlock with 100+ ambient temps, the car felt like it had zero interest in boosting.

I figured as much. Time for an upgraded FMIC.
