New family bus...
With the imminent arrival of sprog #3 my thoughts (as usual) turned to our transport options. Our 2009 Touran Match was coming to an end of it's PCP and though the balloon was a very reasonable £7k I struggled to get three child seats on the second row. Mainly because unknown to me the middle seat is 3/4 size. I was also aware that it was probably going to start costing us a bit more money and with another child on the way I really just wanted something I had to put fuel in and insure.
So step forward the Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCi 140 Zetec... I think an attractive vehicle for lugging around 5 people and a lot of luggage. Or 7 people and not so much luggage. There's so much space and the standard spec (for a base model) is quite generous. Everything important is electric, there's Bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors and a heated front screen. I've got somebody coming tomorrow to tint the rear glass and all in all I'm quite pleased with it. |

S Max is a great vehicle, hired them on holidays 2 or 3 times. Handle nicely with good space inside for all the family. One we had last time was a Titanium X.
Did you lease or PCP again? |

Seats in boot are not full size, an adult could maybe sit there but would be tight. If you need full size rears then its time for a galaxy.
I wouldn't have thought buying new was the way to go with this as any Ford with so many pre reg and demo bargains about. Having said that I'm sure the discounts on new are huge too. |

They do look good considering what their purpose is for and the space required. My mate has one, think the Titanium one, and it's like a fecking tardis and so well specced.
You tying a knot in it now?

It's a PCP again. £2k down and £270pm over 4 years. Looked at contract hire but quickly found that the amazing deals are not so amazing once you expressed an interest.
Well between them and the other half they pretty much wrecked the Touran so no change there! I'm so glad my car is now totally out for transporting the family. Quote:
As Davy says, no the third row are a bit smaller. We don't need all these seats just the full size second row but nearly all cars of this type come with the two extra in the boot. Galaxy, Sharan, Alhambra etc are nice but too big and too expensive. As far as pre-reg and demos are concerned, I was happier buying new for the warranty and I think I've done OK on the finance. The pre-reg and demos are there but then the finance is loaded, virtually wiping out the depreciation saving. Yes By the way, I used webuyanycar.com to dispose of the Touran. Very, very good. Ideal family bus. Makes far more sense than some of the luxury 4x4s that people buy only to discover the boot isn't that big and that baby sick, dirty shoes, fruit shoots and haribo don't mix well with fine nappa leather.
A guy at work has had an S Max for 4 years and it's been completely reliable.

Everything looks good, a few funky design features too like that handbrake. I bet its very comfortable. Whats the rear visibility like ?
I have also used the same company to dispose off cars and I would also recommend them. |

A good sensible decision - perfect for the family.
+1 for webuyanycar.com. I have used them in the past and had no problems.

very smart and spacious... I looked at these too, but was too large for our needs, so ended up with a Mazda 5 on their £0 deposit, 0%APR over 43months PCP.... through DriveTheDeal got a good deal. But if you want three a breast in the middle row, only the S-Max and larger MPVs are suitable.
Q7, R-Class (middle seat narrow) and Discovery are OK too, but expensive to buy and run and you will mind if the children and wife wreck the interior (or exterior)! |

Of course you can
But a little more info first. If I'd let the finance run it's course to October the balloon would have been £7100. To settle now (April) it cost me £82xx. Webuyanycar.com gave me £106xx after adjusting for wear and tear and taking off their fee. The difference has paid the deposit on the S-Max, paid for the tints (which look very nice btw), bought some Ford rubber mats and a bootliner and filled it up with fuel. Webuyanycar.com also don't need the tax disc so I've sent off for the six months left on that. |

Only gripe is that it doesn't have isofix on the middle seat. Otherwise I have 2 maxi-Cosi Rodifix on the outside seats with a Priori-fix in the middle. |

You could have saved a few quid and given the wife the F30 and bought yourself a focus
do the seats fit in the back of the F30? Do the kids even get to sit in the F30 lol |

I'd be interested to hear your opinions on how the S-Max drives compared to the Touran. |

Yes the centre seat does have Isofix. It wasn't a deal breaker for me but definitely a bonus. As I mentioned earlier, there aren't that many cars with three full size seats on the second row, even less with three Isofix fittings. Quote:

I'd never seriously consider that (obviously!) but my eye was taken with the Focus ST3 Estate they had in the dealers. Didn't know they did one and a bit of a sleeper I reckon. I can get two seats in the back of the F30, not three. Terrible shame Ah, I see what you did there |
