2006 BMW 335i  [5.00]
If you're under 35 years old and have a 30k budget

Well, I would go for one of these:

a supercharged e92 M3
tuned 335i
TTRS
Tuned S5

An 11 plate 330d at 25k will be worth around 10k trade in 3 years with say 60k miles on it, that 25k 911 you would still get 17k for.

335i will be out of warranty after 12 months and then cost you 70 a month for the full one, a Porshce warranty is 2 years buying used, or if you want to take it out again around 100 a month, so a bit more than the BMW one.

I would say get a new 330d m-sport on one of the 350 a month contract hire deals, you will loose more than that buying a 2.5 year old one.
A 335i warranty from BMW is 41 per month for the top package.

Never realised a Porsche warranty was 100 per month.

That is less than what an extended warranty costs for any of BMW's M cars.

I think a 997 turbo is a seriously good buy at the moment.

Can pick up a 2006 for 40-45k. That to some is a lot of money for a car that is already 7 years old. But it's going to hold value very well.

In 2 years it will still be worth 35-38 IMO.

All cars seem a bit pricey at the moment.

I've been keeping an eye on M3s for a long time.

12-18 months ago there was quite a few good ones sub 20k.

Now you are looking at a minimum of 20k with 25k needed for the equivalent of what cost 20k no so long ago.

335 models have picked up too but not quite as much.

OP, what about a Lexus IS-F?

They are few and far between but there is one good looking facelift model with proper LSD on Autotrader.

Looked at one the other day, didn't do much for me. Then there is that awful fake exhaust.

I think the Porsche warranty is 2400 for 2 years, but you can pay monthly.

I would take a C2S over a turbo every time, so much better as a drivers car, all imho of course.

I am sure I would love a turbo, however, everyone I know with one says they are bored after a few weeks.

Fun AND noisy - C63

The 335i tuned is a decent car, but not what I would call 'fun'.

The Cayman will be more interesting to own and run.

gIzzE speaks sense.

Owning a depreciating time bomb is not always the best option.
Renting one may well be.

And having spent some time on track with owners of turbos and C2S C4S, I would agree based on owners comments to me.

I'm in a similar position to yourself at the moment. I just turned 24 and I'm driving an E93 335i for the last 2 years and I'm looking at changing.

I'm based in Ireland so unfortunately there isn't the same depth in the market as there is in the UK.

To my mind a good 997 is the best choice. A 997 is just as efficient as the 335i I'm driving at the moment. A 997 will only it's value much better than any 330D over a 2 year period. If you buy a 997 from OPC you'll get a two year warranty. Otherwise you can purchase an extended warranty.

If you're staying with BMW then I'd buy an 1M/M3.

The other car I'm considering is a Jag XKR.

I'm also in a similar situation. I've considered BMW offerings but the 3 is just too big and the 1 is too common and ugly.

I'm 25 so I can get insured on a fast car but I'm thinking about getting something more modest price wise so I can invest a little.

A Cayman S can be had for 15k which seems like a great buy but I'm sure it will depreciate just as badly as my current car.

Hey guys - just thought i'd update this for anyone interested.

Just put a deposit down this morning on a cayman with design package. The deal was way to good, was over my original budget but couldn't say no. It's less than 2 years old, 1500 miles (YES 1500!!!) basically brand new, one previous owner who was an elder gent who probably never even took it out in the rain. It was absolutely spotless, decent spec & extras.. got it from a main porsche dealer so free 2 year warranty, 2 year service included etc - doesn't get much better. Got an okay price for my 3 series too so happy with that also.

Some pics, pick it up on wednesday hopefully:

at your age, it's all about performance and looks.

don't worry about being sensible.

For 25k/ 30k

M3 e92
heavily modded 335i ( 450bhp easy)

I reckon a modded 335i will easily smoke a Cayman S...

On a straight I've made a normal carrera sweat.

But if all you care about is straight line speed then you won't get a Porsche.
The fact you had turbo'd Audi's in your list shows you don't get what a Porsche is all about.

What a funny thing to say to someone showing off his new Porka.

That Cayman looks great mate, look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Cheers guys - can't wait to pick her up!

Not sure if zltm had seen the update or if his post was direct reply to first page, however as said S5's, m3's etc aern't practical for me.. i drive between 13-15k a year so this option isn't being sensible, something that gets 20mpg would just be suicidal though

+Gizze is right - it's not about straight line speed or anything like that, i just want something that re-kindles the fun of driving that was lost after owning my 320d (no disrespect, lovely car) that was a bit of a whale. It has to look good to obviously!

If mileage/petrol wasn't a factor i would have ended up with a c63, easy choice!

335i's are pretty dull to be honest, once the novelty wears off you are looking for the next mod to keep your interest, the Porsche will always entertain, as would an M3 etc.

I got bored of my 335i pretty quickly, then but a Juice Box on it and liked it again for a few weeks, and then got bored again, so started looking for other mods and realised it was all a waste, so bought another M3.

My 335i did the sprint to 60mph in 4.7 every time, faster than the M3, but that is missing the point.

So spot on mate - a 335i could be quicker than an m3.. but it's not a m3, it's still a 3 series! No disrespect to any owners obviously but they're not special like an m3's, most people wouldn't even know the difference when seeing a 320 vs 335.

Would love an M3 - in Santorini Blue.. just a stunning car!
