Only thing I can think of upgrading to from my current 335xi would be a CPO X5M or a 550xi. But then again I also have a fully built '92 Eclipse GSX with 250k miles on it (feels faster then my FBO) and a Nissan frontier with 85k miles on it.

I'm not a stranger to out of warranty cars. To be honest, if you have a good indy and as long as you keep up on the basic maintenance (don't do crazy stuff like HIGH RPM clutch dumps from a dig on all wheel drive cars)... having a fully moded ride is super dependable and far cheaper to self insure with no car payments.

I still feel it's a lot cheaper to not pay a money factor on a new lease OR interest on a new loan, compared to out of pocket maintenance/service on an older ride. Modern cars are pretty solid and can last to 300k miles if you take care of them. Only problem I see is... once a car reaches over 100k miles... its hard to find a buyer, but those are the guys who make out like bandits cuz they can be choosey of who's used car to purchase. The car is fully depreciated and a simple flush of all the fluids will give you another 100k miles of great enjoyment (for next to nothing on sales tax and future depreciation).

I think the next awesome financing product will be to lease CPO cars @ 10% depreciation/year and 15k miles/year allowance (should bring the car to a maximum of 75k miles and 6 years old) and only 45% residual value of MSRP. At which point they can sell a "re-certified" Extended CPO up to 8 years/120k miles + wheel/tire insurance or service plans or any other up sells they wish. Auto Manufacturers and dealerships can make money hand over fist if they did this (You have to remember that insurance claims are not the same price as off the street customer rates, they get priced at a much more dirt cheap rate so as to be profitable).

I went to Audi dealership last night and looked at the new models which were sweet but their cpo preowned sucked ass.

Dents, dings and full limo tint on a cpo? Wtf? That's illegal on a cpo I thought? Wtf? Plus that's illegal in my state to have the front 2 Windows tinted.

But the Audi A4 is no contender for my 328i BMW, in my opinion!

My friends 2001 S4 was fully modded back in 2003 when he got it used bone stock from the original owner, he then sold it to another common friend in 2008 with close to 100k miles and it was running perfectly (had to fix common issues that all S4's suffer from). Last we heard that S4 is still running like a champ on the original motor/tranny/turbo's @ just over 200k miles. Modern cars can easily last you a long time if you know how to take care of them.

Assuming you have a BMW CPO, it kicks in after the factory warranty (4 year/50k miles) expires. So if the car is 2 years old and now at 51k miles, then you are out of factory warranty by 1k miles (because that is the activity that occurred first) if you had a CPO... then your CPO is in effect until you reach 100k total miles OR you reach the 6th year of vehicle in service date).

so in the above example... if you then park the car for 3 years you are going to be at 5 years in service and 51k miles still, that means your CPO still has 1 year of time remaining OR 49k miles remaining of CPO (which ever comes first).

CPO is not the same as bumper to bumper factory warranty... CPO only covers specific things AND only if the dealership says that yes the customer came in to complain about a valid/covered issue. Other wise the dealership will charge you their normal diag time of about $100-$150/hr. If the item is a covered repair... then you only need to pay $50 for the diag instead of the $150 normal rate... and BMW picks up the cost of the parts + labor.

It gets even more interesting because if you have 1 valid issue being repaired or 10 issues being repaired at one visit... the cost is only a total of $50 to you per visit to dealership. But if you come to the dealership 10 times and each time do one covered repair... then it would be $50 (deductable) * 10 (number of visits) = $500.

I got mine 3 years ago with 26,000 miles. Been tuned since 26,015 miles. :P
Knock on wood I drive hard city miles daily and Drag strip 15 times a year minimum. Only issue's have been wear and tear, Clutch, Upper Lower Bushings, shocks and lot's of tires. Oh, oil and spark plugs.

This Friday is round 2 mid-life Overhaul. New rims, Brake rotors, pads swaybar bushings, water pump, belts... Ect.. I did loose some of the smooth drive-ability though. Might be from the Stage 2+ clutch and LWFW. Oh well, soon to be dedicated track car once I replace the lungs...

WHOA theres an s4 with original turbos running around 200k ?

well fuck me if thats not what b5 s4s have taught me about them. repeatedly.

i once saw a k04 rs6 swapped turbos blow 2000 miles (en route to h2o)

ahhh b5 s4s, the one car that destroys the theory that new cars are reliable.

I think the key is to do frequent oil changes and to make sure you idle the turbos before shutting down (1 min or 3 mins for spirited driving). Even tho we can't get turbo timers for our N54's... I still idle the thing before shutting it off. I know it's probably water cooled... but still I'm just old skool like that.

M3's are great rides... just buy it enjoy, but turbo's and tuner cars are exciting because you can always build on to it over time (there is always something new and exciting like this:

60k miles and u think she old...give me a break lol. I remember mine at 60k was the center of the attention, I would say back in 2009. Now shes at 103k and pure preventive maintenance its all I have done for her. No issues here exept for a minor VCG leak.

Keep it if you like it. I have 162,000 miles on my 06 330i and it still runs like new. It has held up much better than my wife's Nissan Murano that has less miles and was driven much easier.

What can we say, some cars are built on a Wednesday and others are built on Friday's :P

I got lucky and got a Wednesday car which has been pretty rock solid.
