FiRi's E90-335 (South African Build)

Hi Guys.

Firi here from Johannesburg South Africa. Registered 2 years back and never ever got down to doing a build thread here.. A good friend, Divio has been urging me to get my thread going, so I finally said what the heck.... Let do this.

Proud owner of what a dream come true for me, a BMW e90 335 with the n54 derivative. Been going for 3 years strong now, and absolutely loving every moment, the good and the bad (n54 owners will relate)

The Storyline

So heres the story, October 2013 seen the reluctant sale of my first BMW, an E46 330i which i loved to bits. I didnt HAVE to sell the car, it just my ass was itching for something which reminded me of my previous car, which an was 2007 OPC chipped.

I loved the OPC for it looks and its power, it had that feeling of a drivers car, and it was my first Force induction car, so the instant power was too addictive.

The E46 however, made me realize the difference between the two GERMAN manufactures. My 330, despite being manufactured 4 years prior to the OPC, has a fantastic ride. It was smoother, had an engine and exhaust note which was to die for, quieter in terms of road noise, much more refined, more SOLID on the road and had that nice *clank* when you closed the door. After my first test drive when viewing the car, I was sold on it, the kilos were right, the condition was good, but moreover, i knew i was REALLY buying into a Quality brand. The E46 stayed with me for just over 2 years, and what a time it was. After joining the local South African BMWFanatics forum, I got more involved with the car, and the forum and its members inspired me to bring her to an even better condition then she already was. I did what I needed to make my heart happy in terms of cosmetics on the car, and did the cooling system as a safety measure as well.

THEN....i drove that DAMN Z4M.....Ive written a small post on my experience with the OH SO DAMN GOOD car, so I aint gonna spell it out here again. But that was it....THE ITCH STARTED....as CLARKSON would say...POWWEEEER, is what i needed..... the itch that was created would not go away. I tried suppressing it but to no avail, and so the HUNT began.

Everynight, an hour or so MINIMUM, was being dedicated to searching ALL the sites for a car that would make me happy and fit in my budget. I decided on an E90 335 or e90 330d.

Finally, after a crap load of discussions I settled on getting a 335. Then came 2 door or 4 door problem, and that was solved quickly, as my brother has a 335 coupe which i wanted to take, so used it for a week. The 2 door with a family is too much of a hassle, so I scratched the coupe out. Last choices came down to either, 335i schnitzer conversion ( TREVOR NOAHS previous car) , or a white 335 with 20000k less kilos. Needless to say, the schnitzer looked the business and did it as well on the road, but the mileage was 20k more then the white one, and 50k more expensive as well. Did some discussions with the family, put my feeling for the schnitzer aside, and went to go and look at white 335. Fell in love the second i jumped in, for a 6 year old car, previous owner kept it in pristine condition.

2 months Later, on the 4th of JAN 2014, I finally picked my new car up. I AM loving it to bits. Initially i wasn't going wild and planting the paddle into the rear of the engine bay, I know the power is there, but for now Im ENJOYING the comfort and ride so much that it makes me feel old. The Car came with everything you could want:

- i drive SATNAV
- Xenons
- Dynamic Light package
- Keyless Go
- Paddle Shift
- Heated Seats
- Electric seats with memory
- Lumber Support
- TV
- Upgraded Hifi Sound
- PDC front and rear
- Sunroof
- Mpack KIT
- OEM Mpack boot spoiler
- Rear Blind
- Passenger Blinds
- 72 000 kilos on clock
- had 1 year left of motorplan left

Was so happy to get everything I wanted, Well besides the style 225 19" wheels.

There was still a lot of cosmetic surgery needed on the car to get it where I wanted it in terms of appearance, but all was to happen in due course. Now for Pics of previous cars and the new one. Sorry about all the reading...

(Apologies for these initial small images, For the life of me I have no clue as to why they were resized.)

After having a the car for a few weeks....I was starting to itch with regards to the cosmetics, and just had to start converting the ugly duckling into the car I had pictured it to become.

Registration Plates still belonged to the previous owner as I waiting on my own set to arrive.

First up with decided whether to keep the mtech boot spoiler, so change it with a carbon fiber one.

Also ordered some other CF Bits to help build a theme on the car.
Carbon fiber badges
CF mirror Caps
CF Front Splitters

Pics of them fitted....

I absolutely hated the orange rear tail lights so had to start sourcing some new OEM black lines. BMW unfortunately only had the outters available, so i purchased them and fitted. It did kinda odd due to the inner tail lights on the bootlid not being smoked, but it did not look as bad as the OEM ones in my books.

Angel eye and fog lights globes were next on the list, and these were replaced with some white LED Phillips globes..

Two things were bothering me, the 18inch 193 rims were just too small and i wasnt quite happy with the carbon fiber boot spoiler. it just did not look aggressive enough. This was remedied with the fitment of a new performance CF boot spoiler, and i finally pulled the trigger on a set of used Style 225 19inch 335 rims.

I then finally found a set of blackline inners for the tailights and my long awaited order of matt black kidney grills arrived. Along with all this, i decided to get a 35% black tint done on the car, and found some 4d carbon fiber vinyl for the B pillars of the doors. Lastly I removed the chrome 335 badge and replaced it with a gloss black one

After a few months on ownership, the condition pf the paint was started to erk me, so I decided to try at my hand at attempting to detail the car myself.

Purchased :
Makita DA machine
Meguirs Clay bar
Meguirs Maroon Cutting pads
Autofinesse Iron Out (Wish i wore a mask when using it, bloody stinks )
Megs Ultimate Compound
Valet pro Ph neutral snowfoam
Snowfoam Canon attachment and bottle for karcher HP washer
and Fusso 99 Wax

Some pics of the products and what I dealing with to try and correct the paint. As it was my first attempt, I obviously did not get rid of all the swirls and scratches on the clear coat, but it was good enough to make the cars paint look fresh again.

With the new Rims in and the cosmetic mods taking shape, the car was in need of low as it was resembling and X series

Managed to get my hands on some HNR race springs and purchased some 10mm spacers with extended bolts for the front and rears wheels.

Nice looking car mate. I really like the 225M on the sedan. Good job on the paint too - it's one of the next jobs on my own to do list.

One of the First Local BMW event I attended was BMWFest 2014 hosted by SABEEMER in South Africa. At the Time I was still a new member of BMWFanatics which is South Africa's Largest BMW online forum/club, and every now and again, we would have meetups, or attend other clubs meets. We attended BMWFest as a Club and had a great turnout with some brilliant well kept and modified machinery that turned up. Little did I know, that this day would the beginning of something new on my Journey with the 335 , through which strong bonds of friendship would be forged through like minded individuals sharing a passion for the BMW BRAND and Modified or OEM plus BMWS.

Below are some of the Pictures taken by a good friend and the extremely talent DivioPhotography. As you will see there's some well kept e90s, as well a range of other range of BMW ranging across the years.

Thanks for Reading, enjoy the pics

Update time again....

On the Day of Beemerfest, I was given a lesson by a VW Scirroco Type R...i only managed to start reeling him slowly after 200. Needless to say, this did not go do well, and this the modding journey began on the mechanical and I ordered & paid for my JB4 g5 unit with a set in bms Intakes from a local South African company called Rennzport. It was the beginning of a story that would forge new friendships which today have become family

The next cosmetic mod was the beginning of the cars move away from the OEM look and into the vision I had planned for her.
