BMW stock exhaust to PE conversion... Possible?

Last year I installed a BMW PE on my car and the stock exhaust has been lying around since. When I was doing the swap, I realized that there is some resemblance between the PE and the stock exhaust with the exception of some things:

  1. The PE was a bit lighter than stock. Never weighed it, so not sure by how much.
  2. The midpipe resonator in the stock setup was replaced by crosspipes in the PE.
  3. The PE had similar mufflers to the stock ones (I'm sure there are minor differences that affect the acoustics), and even has the connection between both mufflers.

So I was wondering... is it possible to make something like a PE with the stock exhaust? The two main things I would think are to fabricate crosspipes and swap out the midpipe resonator, and to disable the vacuum pump/flap from the right? muffler. See here for pics of the PE with the crosspipes. What do you think??

My stock exhaust is for sale for anyone interested.

It is a very long thread and I eventually gave up following it. Not sure if anyone ever cracked the conversion.

Not sure what you mean. The main difference is of course inside the mufflers.

The mid section on the E92 is already like the PE section, a simple straight X pipe.

E90 has a resonated (muffled) X pipe
