FEELER: 2008 E93 335i

I drive a 2008 E93 335i. The car is pretty much stock bar upgraded wheels and a few visual BMW performance upgrades (auto lever, handbrake etc...).

The car as pretty much every stock extra you could tick on the option sheet.

I'm wondering how much the car would be worth in the UK? It's an Irish car with full BMW service history, 45,000 miles on it, I'm the second owner. Tyres all round are 5mm +.

Car has been detailed by one of the best detailers in Ireland (Kingpin) and the paintwork has been maintained by me - only ever hand washed, using 2BM etc.. Picture below showing the paintwork.

Picture of the car before upgraded wheel below. I also still have the OEM 225's.

I've two questions:
  1. How much would this car be worth in the UK (I'm thinking of either buying an E92 M3 or a Jag XKR in the UK so it might make sense to sell this in the UK.
  2. Is there any interest?

I know that, but the Irish Revenue have introduced a VRT refund system whereby I'll get part of the VRT back on exporting the car to the UK. Plus I'll being sterling which means I'll save on converting Euro to Sterling as well.

It might just work depending on the value of the car in the UK.

How much is a well looked after E93 335i M-Sport worth in the UK?

Where would you physically be selling the car ? Thats a big old question because anyone from the UK would have to be extremely seriously interested because to travel to and fro is going to be a weekend job and takes hundreds of pounds ( flight in , ferry back .. probably hotel inbetween) + the pain of documentation to do with exporting ( which won't be sorted in a day) so 2 trips might be required adding further expense.

The car would have to be a) very special & b) very cheap

You also say nearly every extra? From your 2 pictures I can see 3 things that wern't ticked !

Active cruise
Front PDC ( pic a bit fuzzy so can't really make it out)
Auto Dimming mirrors

Best to sell in Ireland i think .. does the plate go with the car ?? nice single digit !

There is 2008 E93 335i with sat nav, leather, 19s and DAB at traders for under £16k over here.

You will take an absolute hammering since it is an Irish car.

I've seen people over here with cars originally registered as UK cars in Northern Ireland and they can only get dealers to offer them peanuts in comparison to cars not from NI.

The tax would have to be extreme for it to worth your while selling over here.

There is no reason for a UK dealer to penalise a NI car as they are exactly the same and many are even registered via Swansea, an ROI car is a totally different matter.

They shouldn't but they do.

It does still state NI on the V5 I'm sure.

I never understand the mentality that people won't buy an Irish car in vice versa in Ireland.

The cars rolled out of the same factory!

In any event, the tax refund is potentially significant.

I'd probably want £17k for it in order to get into the XKR for the figure I have in my head.

There's isn't active cruise control, just normal cruise control. There is front PDC and also auto dimming lights and mirrors.

The plate goes with the cars. You can't keep a plate in Ireland.

I'd be selling the car in the UK. Ideally at the same time as buying the new one.

It shouldn't make much difference but I'm afraid it does.

Your car does look a good one but the person buying it would need to really want your one more than any other.

There is already cheaper ones over here from traders.

I think you might get a shock how low the offers will be.

Well, dream on.

There is no point arguing with us.

I think rogersXP bought a 350Z from ireland, some dealers refuse to part ex or gave him silly money in uk and it was very hard for him to sell it in the end.

It creates hassle. I can imagine things such as warranty can be an issue when the car is from another country. Plus it instantly makes people think it could be shady and makes it more difficult to trace history.

I can see why people don't want foreign cars. It wont give you peace of mind.

I'm not arguing with you at all.

I merely wanted to see what the car would be worth in the UK and just stated that I'd probably want £17k to get into the XKR for what I would be willing to spend on a 2010 XKR.

It used to be the same in Ireland - if you bought a car in the UK you could forget about it having any sort of resale value in Ireland. However, in recent times I think people have started to accept that the cars are ultimately the same. I brought a Mini Cooper S in the UK and got reasonable value on it when I went to sell it in Ireland.

The refund from the Irish Revenue would be as much as €10k, by the way.

Would you not stick it up on carzone? There's an '08 for sale at the moment asking c. €34k in a main dealer. Surely high €20's is achievable? And surely that should equate to more than the £16/17k-ish you'll get from the UK + the VRT refund?

As an aside, I'd say you're being optimistic hoping for €10k in a VRT export refund (notwithstanding what it might say on ros.ie). In my most recent experience of the Revenue, I imported a 2010 330d M Sport auto about 7 months ago and was put through the ringer by the Revenue – ros.ie initially said VRT would be €6,913 (+extras), I was done for €9,153 after inspection so I appealed… After 6 months, 3 appeal letters, a formal hearing and hours upon hours of researching my case I got the VRT reduced to €6,360. Point being, their import tax system is a LOT of hassle and guaranteed to fcuk you, I can’t see why the export refund system would be any different.

For all you guys in the UK, you are reading that right – I was initially charged £7.8k (subsequently reduced to £5.4k) in import tax to bring a 2010 330d from the UK to Ireland!

The price the main dealer is looking for on that 335i is just insane! It's worth about €26k - €27k.
