3 stage intake manifold without tune

Does the 3 stage conversion on a 328 require the tune to operate? Has anyone had experience with the intake manifold without the tune? How does it run?

the car will run normally with the swap. You need a tune to activate the DISA valve to unlock the extra 30hp.

Search there is TONS of information available.

I've been doing a lot of searching. Just wasn't sure how it would run within the tune.

There will be noticeable hiccups while you accelerate. The Disa valves will operate without the tune but your engine map will not be optimized. Your car may even be slower without a proper tune.

i just did the swap last weekend and i dont have a tune either... saving money for the tune. but from what i can feel, it pulls slightly harder... barely noticable if u dont know ur car...

Just doing the manifold gives you better low end power (most noticeable) and a bit up top. But there is a dip in power around 4000rpm that is noticeable at WOT. The disa valves work without the tune.

getting a tune will increase the power all the way through the rpm range and smooth out the dips. how much increase you get depends on your car (a 325i will gain more hp than a 328i, because the 325i starts out lower)

So do you get 30hp with the tune? Or is it 30hp for the conversion, plus gains from tune. Brentuning claims 25hp just with the tune.

This is with or without the manifold swap?

Does he realize the US Market gets a completely different intake manifold than the 325s and 125s (and 525s) in Europe? The only exception is the N51 which comes with the 3 stage manifold standard.

Thanks for the tip on the tuner though.

It has to be with the swap. There is no way a 328 will gain 40hp from a tune, without mods

A US 325i will also gain 30-35hp and 30-40 ft/lbs of torque with the manifold swap and AA tune (mine did).

Not sure how that translates on a 328i though. The 328i stock already felt noticeably stronger than the 325i did to me.

That 325i had no DISA, and the TQ number was higher than any tune that I have seen on these forums. HP was not that different form other results.

Out of curiosity, how much hp/tq would a 328 on 93 octane without tune (stock) put down? Just an approximate. Most of these dynos I see of baseline 328s are on vehicles running 91 octane, so I'm wondering what my baseline would be in the ballpark of.

I think 93 doesn't make a big difference unless you tune your car for it. Mapping etc.

Well yeah, that's with the swap though. Swap plus tune, 30hp for 325 is bad actually. You should get close to 40, which is what you got I think 328 won't get more than 30hp since 325 is "more limited" than 328 to begin with. The swap is what BMW did to make a difference between 325/328 and 330. If you're going to do the swap and spend $2000, you're better of buying a 330. 330 plus tune, and you're around 285hp

It's definitely a lot of power to gain. We need more mods available for N/A engines. I understand n54s and others are a lot faster, but they are also problematic.
