Oddly mine works when I leave my hometown but stops working when I come back.... think it must be something they are trying to tell me about where I live !!!

I'm talking about outside my house, in the city centre, anywhere I tried it !!!! I'll do some more testing but I can't be bothered to go to the dealer and leave it there for the day when I'm most likely to need it out of town anyway.BMW Assist.... might save your life in an accident as long as you have one in a built up area with lots of GSM signal ![]()

Goto google maps and search for a business that you want to send to the car. Above the map at the right hand side is "send", hit this and select "Car", then enter your assist details.

Peter, find a business on google maps. Then click on send and choose car, bmw and put your I'd in (peter.g or whatever) and you are away! I would be more specific but i'm writing this while walking home and don't have good access to google maps!

no Google doesn't support that yet.
I did ask, but got the usual mumbo jumbo, doubly annoying when it's your own brother giving you the excuse :P SJ |

what they should do is allow you to drag around the map and set any location from the view and send that. Then you would have a properly useful system.

The businesses must bear some of the cost involved in having their details 'advertised' to BMW ConnectedDrive users, via Google Maps & Assist. That income for Google just wouldn't be there, if they allowed any old location to be used. :mad:Google Maps uses a closed protocol via BMW Assist, the only difference being the inability to: send 'free text', send 4 different replies to the sent text & receive one of those replies back. See for yourself in the 'Send my info' part of the ConnectedDrive website- it keeps an archive of all sent 'messages' to the car, currently from both BMW Assist itself & from Google Maps. If someone put their mind to it, I'm sure the protocol could be 'modified' to allow the sending of any location. ![]() ![]() It's also a shame the in-car Assist doesn't automatically download any new messages in 'My info', instead of having to do it manually. Viv |

BMW have a mapping solution on their site though - they should hook that up. Should also allow a specific route to be plotted with via's and then sent to the car!!!

I noticed that route planner Silver, and I was looking for the 'send to car' button, which doesnt exist. It seems that BMW just need to go that one stage further with the ASSIST facilities.

If I were to design such a site, I'd make sure it was designed to provide the features its users WANTED, not those those that BMW THOUGHT they wanted! ![]() Viv |

I found some interesting "night-time" drives in parts of Derbyshire last Saturday.

Mines working now ...
![]() Now .. I need to have a play around and see what it does. I though that there would be some 'online' element from the car though ... I thought connected drive brought 'assist and online' together??

NFS......It does....in marketing terms...but you have to have the "online" aspect in your car spec when you ordered I believe.
If anyone is ever passing through milton keynes I'd be interested to see if it works for you there as it only works for me when I leave ![]()
