Fun Ipad mini install

I decided to make my own iPad plate and performed the installation. I kept the factory system so I can still use the steering wheel remote for volume. I am looking into an Alpine deck since the original professional series is an Alpine in the hopes I can use more steering wheel buttons and have more features. Anyways, here are pics I posted in DIY

Making the side pieces angled and figuring out shape.

Epoxy everything together.

Fiberglassing a t shirt for shape.

Sanding the resin and checking rough fit.

I do not like how it fits at the top.

Fixed the top......

I decided it needed to be repainted again tonight.......lol. Of course it is soaking wet, then I can sand it again to cut down the texture.

I am also considering angling the climate controls up and out of the hole in the center console so it is easier to read the display. Not sure if I want to take the time and energy to do it, but will have to fill in the edge between the factory climate controls and the factory wood piece either way. Right now it is close, but not finished. Going to enjoy it this week and then decide what to do with the center console.

Where is your factory stereo located?

Looking good so far. Is the iPad removable so you can sync it? I like the way you relocated the climate control, but you should have got the newer one with the heated seat buttons built in.

The factory radio is still in the dash behind the iPad without the faceplate. Steering controls volume still works but no fm or cd. That is what I wanted though.

As for syncing the iPad links to my house router whenever it is in the home garage. I have not made my phone a hotspot yet since I didn't think it was necessary.

Also it is much more flat black now. Looks a lot better.

Dude the background of your ipad should be a pic of a stock radio and air controls.

Great job!. That looks like a lot of work. I wish I had the patient to take on something like that.

I like this concept a ton! If I go about something similar I would try and make the ipad removable to throw in the glove box though... keep the criminals away.

I decided I hate the climate controls. Looks like another project. Post pics soon.

Well, the problem is that it took me days to make it. Now that I built one, another would go quicker, but still probably 10 hours starting from scratch again. I should have made templates but figured that no one else would want to do it. Certainly isn't one of those Metra kits for price...lol. Let me talk to a couple of guys and see if it is possible to copy it. I have an idea that might work.

Waaaaaayyyyyy Cool!

You might look into, getting a GPS module and running CoPilot.
I use CoPilot on my Nexus 7 install.
Didn't do the whole radio thing, but I thought about it.

Well, I think I can use my piece and vacuum form a template over the top of it and then fill it with resin to make a copy. Still would need to make a spacer plate and a back plate. I could probably make those out of ABS plastic if you guys wanted?
