Please don't do this to your girlfriend!

It breaks my heart when I see this I'm sure you guys probably know a couple of people who do this.

I say this again. I will never, put anyone's life in this kind of reckless behavior whether sanctioned or not because the consequences of such action would be unbearable. Can you imagine living with this kind of pain for the rest of your life? I wonder if he would ever go racing again.

There is no way, I would put any of my family members, child, baby, girlfriend, or mother, strap them in a 4-point harness and take 'em on a road course and drive it like you stole it.

The last time I went racing like this, it was at Fontana Speedway drag strip and I specifically told my girlfriend that she can't ride with me. I will not put her in that kind of risk. She sat on the bench and I smoked a Dodge SRT4 for her.

By the way, the article mentioned she was strapped in a 4-point harness. I thought a 4-point harness was designed to protect the occupant from really falling out of your seat. FYI: He was driving Integra Type R.

EDIT:: Uhh, that doesn't look like a 4-point harness to me on her.

On Sunday April 21st 2013, the loving couple Jayden Duc Lam and Chelsea Vu experienced a tragedy that immediately changed the lives of their friends and families. A car incident that led the driver to a fractured face and he was then airlifted by REACH to the nearest hospital in Palm Springs. He was put into a medically-induced coma, and was directed to go through facial reconstructive surgery the night after. It was lucky, and he was barely able to survive.

To our devastation, Chelsea was unable to make it out of the accident. Riverside coroners pronounced her dead at approximately 10:30AM. A fatal car accident. Chelsea never did anybody wrong. But somehow, this beautiful young girl who gave meaning to the word "life," had lost her own.

Quote:
Me and my friends went to Chuckwalla Valley Raceway for track day and my friend Jayden had lost control of his integra type r and crashed. He broke is face but should be in stable condition. His unfortunately girlfriend died at the scene. We were being as safe as we could, did safety inspection, helmets, followed all the rules and it was not his first track day so had some experience and knew his own car.

Wow this really opened my eyes..I won't have anyone in my passenger seat, especially my family and girlfriend, in the car with me if I decide to visit the track ever again or some spirited driving on the streets. RIP :/ my thoughts go out to the family.

Very sad. Apparently they impacted the flag station inside turn 11 at high speed. He must have been carrying A LOT of speed through 12 and missed 11 all together. It's actually one of the few turns I like at CVR. Not my favorite track and it's in the middle of nowhere which I am sure didn't help their situation.

Pax or not, if you're really pushing it on the track (i.e. 7/10ths or more), you should be fully caged with a 5 or 6 point harness and wearing a real SFI helmet with neck restraint.

I've got a few buddies who go to Azusa or GMR regularly. I've been there myself one time with my friends. But I've never pushed my car, even when they kept saying "why don't you go faster?"

I told them, I've got a family, I've got a career, and I'm not going to put my life and yours as risk like that.

I've got one buddy who specifically bought a Scion FR-S just to go these California un-sanctioned road courses (GMR, Asusa, Angeles) and it's pretty reckless. Thank god he doesn't have a girlfriend.

Yeah, and damndest thing about hitting 40... I still drive fast, I still have a great time on 2 wheels and 4. But I've found I just don't NEED to hang things out as far as I used to cause yeah, I've got family, friends and a happy life.

Sad that this young girl lost hers, my hope is that both the kids were having a blast though and she went quickly. I feel for the driver and the families, long time for those scars to heal.

I met my wife in college, at the time my only transportation was a GSXR750. She went everywhere with me on the back of that thing. Then at some point, around 2003, I didn't want her on the back anymore. I would have been thirty, and for whatever reason I didn't want her on the back of the Busa anymore. I'll put other ladies back there if they are up for it, but not my wife...

Risk VS Reward, shifts on a sliding scale as you age I guess.

Again sad accident...

good for you man, i was stupid enough to go up there a few times as a passenger in my friends subby he really pushed up there too. i was scared shitless. i dont know what it is but they sure have something to prove up there like they're king of the hills. few months later he went up there again and got into an accident and still paying for the hospital bill to this day. its those dam jdm best motoring vids i kid you not, that heel n toe and the G ball picture in picture during those races is tempting to go try yourself.

This is truly tragic and I share the OP's sentiments...I would personally not feel comfortable doing this but we must be careful not to make choices that other people are quite capable of making. I do hope she (and he) fully understood the risks and chose to participate on an informed basis, but if they did so, we shouldn't second guess. Life (and enjoyment of life) involves risks. Sometimes the dice come up the wrong way.
