But seriously, XI on BMWs are a joke. Cheaper maintenance can be solved if you find yourself handy.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying that the 335i is not a good car. But as the thread title states. "E9X 335i > E9X M3" is impossible.

I'll join in:

When I first heard BMW was making a 3 series with a V8, I drooled. I couldn't wait. I was a bit disappointed to find out that the V8 was only going to make 290 ft/lbs of torque though.

I rode in one, I test drove one, I test drove another, and I test drove yet another.

My conclusion was that the M3 did handle significantly better then the 335i (more on that later), but it didn't really feel much faster.

The sound of the v8 in amazing (especially with an Eisenman exhaust), but for a daily driver, I thought the torque of the 335i made it a better bet.

Had M3 prices been in the low $30's, I probably would have bought one anyway. But since decent M3's still sell for $36-$40k, I had a hard time justifying spending that much when I could pick up a sweet 335i for $22-$26k.

Now add in the fact that for $2,600.00 ($900 software, $600 downpipes, $1,000.00 intercooler, $100 intake), I have gotten my 335i up to 400-420hp and 450 tq, and it really looks like a bargain.

The only problem is now I still need to address the soft suspension with some better shocks/springs/rollbars. I mean jesus h christ, for a "BMW" this thing leans wayyyyy too much in the corners.

I'd love to own an M3, but I think I would have gotten tired of revving the crap out of that engine on a daily basis.

That said, when the hype wears off and you can snag one for the low $20's, I'm getting one as a toy!

Agree 100%

Stock for Stock the M3 is superior in performance

Stock for Stock the 335i may be a better daily driver

Then, like you said, once you start modding, it's a different ball game.

I drove both, m3 and 335i when I was looking to switch from my evolution ix, m3 was slower than 335i, but the handling was way better in the m3. I love turbo vehicles, so I went with 335i, way more potential to add power, to get more power out if m3 you need a supercharger and that costs way to much. Now once the new m3 with turbos comes out ill definitely switch .....

I didn't rev the crap out of the m3 so maybe that's why I didn't feel like it was faster than the 335i which has a lot more tq than m3.

It's commons knowledge that a modded 335i is fast in a straight line. It has really great low
end torque and lots of power.
The M3 is a high revving N/A car that's suited for a twisty track and that's that.
My 335i beats m3's. But....I love M3's!! They're iconic!
Stock vs stock it's not even a competition. The M3 wins.

Stock for stock the only m3 the 335i beats is the e36 lol. (And of course the e30)

It's funny because people act like you can't mod a m3. Yeah yeah more money but that's the cost of owning a M. Also to the people saying the 335 is so much better than the m3 why do most of the higher hp 335s have m3 suspension upgrades? Why do a lot of you put m3 style parts on your car (ex. Front bumper and so on)? And why did someone go so far as to have a m3 diff fitted to their car?!? I'm not hating the 335 is a great car but let's not forget the pecking order 328<335<m3.

Edit* just curious why do 335 and zhp owners feel like they need to constantly call out m3's. They are all good cars, but come on there is a reason the m3's have a M badge and the others don't.
Sorry but M badges don't mean shit today with BMW's new "standards". I don't get the M3 hype. If I want a track "street" car I'd look to Porsche. I have a driven quite a few M3"s and always walked away feeling that I'd rather have a GT2 or something else to track instead.

I agree they did whore out the M badge, however the e9x m3 is probably the closest thing we will ever see to a real M ever again. As far a getting a gt2 that's whole other beast. Gt2 = street legal track car m3= street car that can be tracked ... Not a fair comparison.
