I don't think there is any problem?
So many people have done them before.

had my bbs wheels powder coated last year as all needed refurb and its a good result. The finish is far stronger than wet paint and certainly stood up well to stones and brake dust adhesion. Just wish I hadnt curbed one again as will need redoing. Will be taking two back in end of summer when winters go on

I did my wifes 3 years ago and they still look fine with no problems what so ever. Have done it with motor bike cast and spoked wheels as well.

Garage List
I had 2 sets of 18" MV3s powder coated at a local place to me. 60 a wheel IIRC and the finish was lovely. OEM silver with just a slight sparkle in the sunlight.

They kerb just as easily as any other finish but as magic said above, they've stood up very well to the normal stone chips and brake dust corrosion.

Have you thought about smoked chrome or black chrome on a black car?-would look good IMO.
I had a set of diamond cut finish alloys powder coated as they started to corrode and the finish was fantastic.I would really recommend it,however you could get a set of alloys for a little bit more-especially if you count the cost of removing/replacing the tyres and possible balancing.
Ive noticed that you're in Brum.I've used 'The Wheel Specialist' on the Tyburn road in Erdington-very quick service and a good quality job.I will use them again...
