Lightspeed or Sheni's

Anyone have experience with either Sheni's Auto Trend in Calgary, or Lightspeed innovations in Red Deer?

both shops quoted around $7000 for downpipes, intake, exhaust, larger intercooler, supplied & installed + a tune

difference being Sheni's said they use an in house tune where as Lightspeed suggested I go with a cobb AP

any idea as to which route would be better?

I got all of that done brand new for less than half of what your shop quoted, approx $3200.

Ya, I kinda figured the pricing was a bit whack for what they were providing....

I think I would be better off sourcing the parts myself.

I'm not sure which route would be better though?
tuning with Cobb, or going with a custom in house tune done by the shop

I was leaning towards the cobb... since it just seems easier to manage
plus the shop that suggested cobb has a dyno, whereas the other one does not

Even if you buy the parts online yourself for cheaper, you still need to have them installed. That's the problem right there. A lot of shops won't touch parts you didn't buy from them, and with good reason too. Plenty of times people bring stuff in that just doesn't fit or is the wrong part, then the shop has to screw around for twice as long installing your stuff which messes up their whole schedule for the day.

As for the 2 shops, I don't know much about Sheni's but I have read good things about it online. Exact opposite for Cam at Lightspeed. Everything I have read was negative about him. Sheni's is BMW or euro specific far as I knew. So that would be my best bet. I am pretty sure Frank at AMW in Edmonton would install any parts I brought him, but I don't think he does that for very many people.

You're better off getting the Cobb. Not only are the maps on the Cobb known for good power, you can have it custom tuned by a tuner who is familiar with Cobb. I personally went with the JB4. I enjoy it, its decent power and dash features are nice, but if I want more (which I will), I will likely switch and go the Cobb route.
