E92 oil change

I have an important question.. my last oil change was approximately 3 thousand miles ago and since I can remember everyone says you should change it every 3gz.. so wit that being said.. I checked my oil on the left side switch and it shows my oil bar almost max and it says "ok".. should I change the oil anyway? Or just wait til it shows I need oil.. because these bimmers arent like normal cars tht u can pop open the hood and see a visual of oil presence for yourself. Anyone been through this? How so often you guys get oil changes? Thanks for the help in advance...

Lol, my first oil change was at 15k miles. BMW changes it at 15k i believe since its full synthetic. I don't care since its a lease but if you own it, I'd change at least every 5k.

So you're oil will show max/ok for a long time unless you have a leak. The oil doesn't just go away, which means you need to change it. Over time the oil starts to get dirty and thick and this is why you change it.

Having said that BMW has an absurd mileage that it says to go before needing an oil change. Don't use their benchmark.

Some people go 10k miles before they change, but only if you're using BMW approved oil at te BMW approve weight.

I personally go every 3,500 miles and change my oil with Shell Rotella T6. If you go with this oil you really need to closely monitor and change as close to 3,500 as possible.

I did a lot of research before my first oil change. I never let BMW touch my oil. I prefer my interval with shell oil...and just a side note I only use shell premium fuel.

Not saying my way is the be all way and you should do it, but from the research I did this seems best.

You can also search my username on the forums and find the oil thread I started. You'll see the entire discussion about oil and a link to where I buy my oil filters.

Hope this helps!!

My personal interval is every 3-5k or 6 months, which ever comes first. Change your oil. What you are seeing in dash is either your electronic dipstick meter, or oil change interval set by BMW which is an absurd 15k miles. I feel your pain having no dipstick, stupidest thing ever.

If you own change it, if your leasing follow BMWs service of 15k. I've ran all my leases like that with no issues at all.

15k miles is fine for synthetic ols after the break in oil is changed. We tested them in much harsher conditions up to 100000 miles with no problems. I'm not recommending this for our cars. 100% synthetic is that good. The filter is a different story though. The BMW recommendations are good.

I change it every 6K and the dealer every 12K... Changing your oil too frequent is not good for the engine ... Unless your tracking your car or drive it hard day in, day out...if that's the case change it every 4K

Changing it too frequently won't harm the engine, just your wallet.

I use Rotella T6 and change it every 5k, period. Really feel comfortable with this oil.

I think you change oil in your truck for a 3&4months also depend for par day drive a truck. you are not changing the oil in a truck then it's problematic for an engine and the truck engine is not working better.
