335i vs STI

Last night i raced a 2013 STI special edition with 305 hp stock. He wouldn't say what he had aftermaket or what he was pushing to the wheels with his mods.I am about 385 hp to the wheels with my mods and since his awd we went from roll of 30mph in a 1/8 distance. He took me about half a car but any longer he would of left me good. Im posting this because i was wondering if you guys had any idea what upgrades or what WHP they might be around with their upgrades. He did swear he had no NOS but i didn't confirm it. Any ideas. Tx

Most common mods to an STI is "stage 2" which is downpipe and cobb tune. This would put about 290-300 awhp or about 360 crank hp. If he pulled on you he likely had an upgraded turbo and intercooler and/or meth with a protune. Nitrous does not have very common usage in the subaru community.

A small turbo upgrade with supporting mods (intercooler, fuel system etc) with meth and a protune would put him right around 400awhp. A big turbo upgrade with the same mods would put him well over that. I seem to remember guys with just stage 2 mods and meth putting down ~340 awhp. Basically it sounds like the guys spent a decent amount of money.

Maybe you were heat soaked already? If you were driving aggressively before you raced . Maybe your tune pulled timing or you had filled up with gas that was not that great of condition.

STi Special Edition? - I just traded my '11 STi for an '11 335is - Given what you said - he probably ran it in Sport # (http://www.subaru-global.com/11sti_control.html) which provides twice the amount of throttle; I would always be off quicker on a roll but someone with enough ponies could always catch up. It's all about the launch..

Definitely about the launch I feel. My car is stock, and I was messing around with a G37S sedan which was modded (same naturally aspirated v6, but he told me he wasn't stock, didn't say what he had). I actually didn't know he was gonna take off... so I launched a good second or so after him, and he was ahead for a bit, but I caught up.

Well if you need a comparison I run my buddies STi which is stage 2 with a custom catted downpipe. From a roll today I put maybe 2 lengths on him before shutting down even though my car has been having misfires for the last two weeks...

Just came from a 2012 wrx stage 2+ and it should be able to keep up for the most part, but defiantly not pull too far ahead without an upgraded turbo or meth if you are at 385whp... However, the wrx/sti only weighs 3300 pounds whilst the 335 weighs a few hundred pounds above...

Ditto. Is it because it's still the weekend that there is more tolerance of condoning street racing?

However, OP did not state where the race occurred.

Regardless, love my E92!
