Yep thats them. If you turn the music up loud and put your hand on them you will feel the bass coming thru.
Apparently they use a sealed section of the chassis as their enclosure
With the Logic7 (more powerful subs located here) you can actully feel the backs of your legs getting tickled by your trousers (ohhhh errrrrr) due to the more substantial bass output.

I thought they could be removed like a Flintstones or Wacky Races car so you could drop your legs through and increase speed...for those of us without bi-turbos.

You can also get a 'sweaty balls' blow drier retro-fitted there too. Good for days when hammering round the Ring.

Excuse the ignorance but can us "standard" sound system people get "better" bass just by replacing the speakers under the seats????

No, but you have to get 325 or bigger engine, and M-sport package or leather interior.

Ooooh, not quite so easy, as I've been finding out over the last couple of months. Basically, the two speakers under the seats are in a special moulded enclosure which fits into the floor, using ducts and channels in the undertray to act as loading or a 'bass port' for the speakers. The speaker units themselves are a 6.5" driver on the standard system, and an 8" driver on the Hi-Fi or Logic 7 systems.

In each case, the limiting factor is the depth available for the speaker, which is only around 65mm (ie... no depth at all..) BMW engineered the speakers 'backwards' so that they would fit. Whilst it is possible to custom-make an enclosure to fit better speakers, it is a huge amount of work. Of course, you can go and by the Logic 7 subwoofers at a cost of 410 the pair, + VAT, but with either replacement the biggest limiting factor is the amplifier in the standard system, which is PANTS. It has NO power whatsoever.

So a longish post to give you this nugget of information - you CAN replace the speakers under the seat to give more bass, but you NEED to add an additional amplifier. Or in other words, you need to spend at least 700 including labour. If you're going to do that, then I would recommend you replace ALL the speakers and go the whole hog in doing a new sound system.

Are you coming to UK4 ?? Might have a suprise in store for next weekend...

You're quite correct, there are no separate tweeters in the standard system. What happens, is that there are two 'bass' units under the seats, which aren't really bass units at all but more mid-bass units (6.5" diameter) which try and integrate with the speakers in the doors. The door speakers are standard mid-range units which travel fairly high up the frequency range (to about 12khz) or so. We don't have tweeters in the standard system. Which explains the huge limitations in the standard system!!

Got Hifi System in my 520d, and gone for the Logic 7 Pro in the E92 arriving end of this month.

Hifi is better than standard system, also still missing something in the low range though.

Use to have Harman Kardon in a previous 330d coupe but was not impressed by it, at the time though this was not worth the add on.

Hope that Logic 7 will sound terrific

Steph

The Logic 7 is good - worth the money IMO because you don't have to go about doing a custom install which will cost 000s... the HK from the old E46 is PANTS..!!

Welcome to this great forum. Le Mans Blue is the answer (provided you are going for an M Sport).
