Question where can i buy an aftermarket warranty?

I have an 2009 BMW 328I with 78,000. I'm looking for a warranty because I just bought the car and you never know what might happen. Any advice? Which companies are good? Who should I stay about from

I'm buying one from Stephanie at http://www.carchex.com/. I have just under 50k miles and I ended up choosing the 4yr 75k miles warranty $100 deductible. They have a A+ rating from BBB and most reviews I have read online are great. I have been emailing and talking to her over the past two weeks. Email her if you like a quote. Her email is smartin@carchex.com. Oh and they also have a no interest payment plan up to 18 months. Good luck.

Why would you buy a car with a bad transmission?

Too high mileage to buy an '09.

You'll pay a lot for the warranty but you'll still save over the shitstorm costs you'd pay without it. Find a good BMW mechanic...preferably one who will let you group your work under one deductible visit.

Fix it..learn...sell it. Good luck.

any extended warranty (unless provided from manufacture) is the biggest waste of money in my opinion. just my 2 cents

Costco has a decent warranty (through a 3rd party) in some states.

Similar decision to make.....

My CPO warranty on my '07 328i wagon will expire next week. I will either buy an extended warranty, buy a new car or keep this one and bite the bullet. So, I'm in a similar situation to the poster. So, I too ask about aftermarket warranties and also ask, based on your experience, what can you suggest that may need repair in the next few years? The car has 60,000 miles on it. I'm now only driving it about 8,000 miles per year.

Here are some facts to ponder when making suggestions:

Repairs in warranty:

31,000 miles - remote door lock switches
31,000 miles - right rear wheel bearing (should have been detected in CPO process....)
33,000 miles - low oil warning light - apparently CPO oil change did not fill to capacity
46,000 rear brake squeal.....replaced under warranty
48,000.....sunroof wind deflector replaced
51,000....electric water pump replaced
56,000....driver side side view mirror motor replaced
58,000....oil leak found from oil filter mount...gasket on car not on filter
58,000....belt tensioner replaced - nearly fell off

The car seems to have a bit of valve tick at idle. I've read where it's a characteristic of the car and that it's a precursor to needing lifters replaced. The windshield washer reservoir and filler hose leaks...they've refused to fix under warranty...

In March I replaced the battery ($160 at Discount Tire Center not $600 at dealer) and the micro filter ($33 including shipping from Amazon plus 15 minutes to buy on line and install...not the $200 the dealer wanted).

Besides some of the annoying things about the car, it runs and performs well and is in otherwise great shape. The problem is that the resale value is horrendous. I bought it expecting to keep it for at least 10 years, but the thought of what it might cost to fix it going forward is scary and infuriating. If I add $5000 to what Carmax will give, I can buy a new Kia Soul with a 100K warranty...less if I sell it to a private party. Alternatively, I can keep the $5k in my bank and save it for repairs. I can also purchase an extended warranty for about $100 per month.

Suggestions ?

the one SLV335i sounds pretty good. can't beat 0% financing... though it really depends on the price. when I was at 48,000 miles I started looking at warranties... but at $4,000 or more I started calculating the costs of the most likely failures up to 100,000 miles. water pump was the most likely, and I can replace that for under $500. injectors can all be replaced for well under a thousand. so really the biggest concern for us 335 owners are the turbos, which are more likely to fail after 100,000 miles. For 328 owners there's even less risk. of course if your tranny failed that would make the warrant well Worth it. bottom line with warranties, you are gambling... and what you are being on is that your car will break. that's generally a bad bet.

I contacted them as well today for an 07 335 with 65K, and was quoted $3200.

I'd say give USAA a call, but unless you're military, it won't do much good. Their comprehensive, bumper-to-bumper coverage bought me a brand new transmission all because of a little hesitation shifting from second to third.

Good luck.

I'm at $2650 for the 4yr service. I think it's more once you pass 50k miles. That what I was told. Also don't go for the lowest price company because you could be wasting your money with them. I have been looking into all these companies for over 2 months now and so far for the money and reviews Carchex is one of the best I could find. Try to negotiate with Stephanie and what she can get you down to. Thats what i did. We were at about $2850 when i was first quoted. Hope that helps.

Another good option is Route 66 from Penfed credit union should be under $2000. However Carchex still had a overall better review and didnt have a payout cap. With a 328i you should be safer than the 335i owners. However It's insurance. You never know you will need it but you will be happy you do when something goes wrong.

Dont have to be military for the extended warranty as this is considered one of their "banking" products and not insurance.
