yeah i took a look at mine and to a much less prominent degree there's the beginnings of that problem. i'm gonna hop on one of those protectants and perhaps rertard the progress, but it's good to know the part is only $24. that seal goes all the way around the windshield though...

It's just the Top piece that is $24 or at least that's what the part guy said when I called to see if they have one.

The challenge on the DIY is getting ALL the old stuff out, and then making sure the right amount of glue gets back in to hold the new piece. I decided to bite the bullet and pay out of pocket at the dealer. Glad I did because it didn't go so well the first time, and *I* wasn't paying for it the second.

Not sure about gummi, but 303 can be used on interior and exterior parts as well. 303 on the tires protects without flinging off or making the tires shiny, just black.

One of my Corvettes, as well as my Saab 9-3 sedan both had the same issue with the glass trim pieces. Thankfully the one on my 335i was replaced right before I bought it. Still $25 for a replacement isn't that bad. Saab wanted about $300 for the front and $200 for the rear.

Hmm, glad I saw this! My car doesn't get parked out in the sun while I'm at work or anything, but it still can't hurt to keep this in mind!

yea man. I cant believe i never saw the rotting on my windshield. Its the most bizarre thing ever. I dont even know how to explain it. Just know that its not a costly repair like i thought it would be.

I replaced the strip on my 2006 ... but it was no where near as bad looking as the one in the picture. BUT - my car is frequently garaged, and I regularly treat my door seals, window strips, etc as part of my detailing. I think this is just a weak part on the car.

I just recently replaced it on my 06 330i. Very cheap and very easy to do. The seal only runs across the top of the windshield and just presses into a channel between the glass and body. A small strip of 3m tape runs along the seal where it interfaces with the roof. The seal material feels different than the rest of the seals around the windshield.
