It does look fishy, but maybe thieves took whatever they could fast and sell fast. Usually cars get stolen and stripped, but not sure how easy it would be for a BMW.

wow... they went for the big ticket items...

something seems sketchy about this to me as well. Most of the things that were taken are not things that can be done within 5 min. Each would take at minimum a half hour even for someone experienced with removing the part.

I'm not making any judgements but if I were a thief and it were me I would totally have taken the alu trim, people that know BMW's know it takes 10 minutes to remove all the trim and Alu is very desirable, shift knob could be taken in 30 seconds, idrive controller in a minute, gauge cluster in a minute.

I'm not saying OP is involved in insurance fraud but I too find it fishy because everything you've listed is quick to take out and easily worth more money than other things that were taken. Anyway, sorry for what happened to you OP.

They went through an awful lot of work and risk for an air box and filter. Why is the bumper off?

BOOM!!!

the peices just fell together for me. This being pointed out after the story about a tree fallng on the car. To me its obivous that the car "needs" to be totalled. So some of the most expensive items were stolen. the shit thats easy to sell wasn't and thiefs take everything they can get, not only what sells

a professional theif would have taken the whole car

Did the police check for finger prints? I'm sure there all over the car. So what did the insurance company say? This whole incident is strange. Hopefully it all goes well OP.

First thought. Clown nose doesn't blink = no alarm.. Everything is mine! C'mon guys this is relatively info you all should know than to speculate insurance fraud. Even if he did why would he come and post this on a forum at that?? MUst have a lot of time on his hands I'd say.. OP I feel your lost as I too was thinking of this about my own car a few days ago. and when you get your car fixed spend an extra $300 and get an alarm kit installed, put your car in a garage also better yet leave that neighborhood.

why would anyone cut into the door when they can just break the window?
why would anyone remove or cut the tabs the bumper and leave it like that? well you will get a new front bumper for sure.
If I were the thief, I wouldn't bother with the side mirrors lol, I would take the seats lol

Holy crap !
It looks like some other BMW with some kind of accident (out of insurance) needed these parts. Some selective parts are gone.

Professionals.
No joy-rides, nothing. They went for high-dollar, small(ish), low-weight items.

A professional would not cut the door open. A dumb shit would even break the glass.
