iDrive shortcut key

May I ask in which month in 2009 does the BMW 3 series coupe start having the iDrive shortcut key on the centre console please?

All 2009's as far as I'm aware. Just check the photos of the vehicle. They look very different.

Yes, I believe all 2009+ has that, but occasionally saw one or two 2008 version also got. Check their VIN, mostly built second half of 2008 as I remembered.

I think the only different is the centre console, nothing changes on the body work except the MY11+?

According to wikipedia, all E9x with Professional Nav got the new CIC and iDrive controller from September 2008:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDrive#...tion_.28CIC.29

It's not clear if Business Nav got the new iDrive controller at the same time.

Thanks.

And just saw that we can't use radio/cd while the Nav is on?
And the split screens in pro Nav allows you to perform two tasks at the same time, so, if it is just a business Nav, and while I am playing songs, I have to stop the music when I want to use the iDrive for something else, such as the "climate" or "communication" function?

If so, I think I will have to search for a pro Nav BMW instead of the business Nav....

According Wikipedia, "The CIC system is a major update to iDrive, replacing the display, computer and the controller. The display is of a higher resolution, and is generally more responsive than CCC, to address one of the common complaints of iDrive. Internet access is also supported.[4]
CIC-based systems use maps from TeleAtlas which are installed on an internal 2.5" 80GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD). This HDD can also store up to 8GB of music files for playback. For facilitating the uploading of music files to the HDD, a USB port is provided in the glove box.
Following 2009 LCI production, all CIC-based iDrive systems will support DVD video. This, however, is only operational when the vehicle is in the "Park" position. DVD audio will continue to play while driving.
CIC-HIGH represents the navigation version with HDD, CIC-Mid stands for the intermediate Navigation solution without hdd for audio ripping."

May I ask how do I know if it is the " HIGH" or "MID" version?

So, is it:
Post sept 2008 is CIC, right? is having a better resolution screen and internal storage for media? Or Australia version doesn't?

Basically HIGH = Professional Nav (hard drive based), MID = Business Nav (flash memory based, no hard drive).

When shopping for a car, just look for Professional or Business Nav.

You CAN listen to radio/cd while the CIC Nav is on (they work in the background, they don't stop when you switch to Nav).
