I like the Jupiter Squared, even more so with the carbon fiber version.

Been a fan Smiths for awhile. Good balance of comfort, polarized, and their line of ANSI eye wear is really decent. Been through a lot of glasses over the years, Smiths always seem to find the right mix for me.

But, I'm also not giving two shits what some cretin thinks of the label on my frames. I find 90% of the "designer" over-sized eye-wear comical at best.

I've got a few Serengeti sunglasses, and they're fantastic.

Goddamit. It's JUST a pair of sunglasses, treat it as a commodity than a piece of memorabilia.

I agree with this, while sunglasses aren't the smallest things, they are easy to set somewhere and forget them or have them get broken completely accidentally. They ARE a commodity item, and they get treated by most, as such.

I agree as well. Considering all these sunglasses that we pay $200+ for we're made for probably 20 bucks, they aren't always the strongest products. Obviously, some are, but the designer brands never are.

First let me apologize. I’ll admit I was probably a bit harsh with my first post. Someone must have peed in my Cheerios that day. I guess I felt like you were almost bragging about losing glasses and just buying new ones. If you weren't then I'm wrong. Again, I came off as a dick with my first comment, but hopefully you at least have a small understanding of where I’m coming from. It would be a lesser equivalent of seeing a brand new M5 that was dirty as hell and all scratched up.

Things happen. I understand that. I bought a $3500 watch 6 months ago and one of the strap bars failed. It caused it to fall off my hand and hit the asphalt. The face busted off and caused damage to the dial and hands. It ended up being an $800 mistake. I didn’t do it on purpose and it wasn’t from abuse, but if those kinds of things happened to me several times a year I’d go back to cheap watches.

Again, I’m not saying that mistakes can’t happen. It just felt like a few people were bragging about how often they break their glasses and then just go and buy new ones.

Again, I apologize for being abrasive. If you take pride in the things you own, I have no gripes. Mistakes happen. The only reason I have to be upset is if you throw money around carelessly. I'd just assume donate that extra money to someone less fortunate if that were the case.

Many of the sunglasses that were talked about on here were in the $100-200 range, so more of a "commodity" item than a $3500 watch, though I do get what you are saying. I certainly know that I have broken or simply forgotten a pair of glasses somewhere, but I don't try to. As you said, mistakes happen. Hopefully I didn't come across as a pompous ass with the, "if it breaks just go get another one" kind of attitude, trying to say basically what you did with mistakes happen.

If you read close enough, I bought the same glasses 3 times already cuz I loved it so much but unfortunately lost it under different circumstances.

Most of us feel bad for an expensive watch or car gets banged. Look at the relative value there. While I admire your preservation abilities for a pair of shades over 12 years, but I feel sometimes it takes the whole fun of wearing it in certain conditions. There must have been numerous occasions where you felt wearing these pair might damage it. So everyone has a varying degree of affinity towards things and it should simply be accepted not judged. A $100 sunglasses is Dollar/pennies compared to a $3500 watch or $70k M5.

cheers

Like I said, I came off pretty harsh.

I use the hell out of my glasses or at least my Oakleys. My M-Frames were both bought in grade school. I used both of those for at least 500 baseball games. My Radars saw 4 years of 3-hour practices, ~75 games/year, and somehow made it through my entire college baseball career.

There’s always more to every story though, I lost two $300 baseball gloves over that period (when you carry around 6 it happens I suppose). So I’m certainly not perfect.

In the end, shit happens. No worries about that. The only point I was trying to make is appreciate the things you’re fortunate enough to own. Some people think a nice pair of sunglasses costs $50 (much less a pair that costs $200+).

Post pix? I browsed them online and I'm interested in trying out the Gregoire. How's there lens technology compared to Maui Jim?

Oakley. Love the Standard Issue discounts! I mostly wear my Gascans or Flak Jackets, but wore a pair of Fuel Cells in Afghanistan.

I hate the Wayfarer look that everybody seems to be sporting. I dont know why, maybe it stems from my hatred of hipsters, but if you aren't Buddy Holly you look stupid in wayfarers, especially the neon ones.

+1 to Tom Ford (looked for them after Casino Royale came out)
Persol, Rayban and Dolce&Gabbana are my go-to pairs though.

Along with my Gatorz, I'm also on a tear trying out Kaenon's. Very, very high quality lenses. I'm equally happy with their gray and copper polarized lenses. They make driving a treat. I'll have to try Maui Jim and Costa at some point when my credit card recovers.

P.S. I have so many pairs of oakleys, old and new, I think I'm bored with them.
