Anyone here using a CAI with proven gains?

I assume it's all BS, but figured I'd check in again to confirm

dyno proven on my setup 7 hp. at the dyno, on / off / on / off runs... as much as I typically DON'T like them, the BMS/afe cai does yield a small gain [in WOT].

Cool brother- got a preference- one marginally better over the other?

Christ on a cross: aFe (470.00)
vs.
BMS intake: (199.99)
They look the same- what the hell does the aFe one do over the BMS, give you a blowjob while driving?

I've been wondering the same thing. I have everything in my car except meth and intake. I was thinking about getting one but I've heard it's not worth it.

I was recently thinking about getting a CAI as well but didn't seem worth it like you said. Some of these drop in replacement filter (k&n, etc) claim 5-7hp gain and they are only $65

I had one of the first production runs from aFe. They are crap - and I really mean that. They rushed it into production and the coupler to the cold side of the turbo was not a good seal. Their second attempt at it is the all-new closed CAI. I have heard some people complaining about quality. just don't go with aFe.

BMS on the other hand, is fantastic. They built upon aFe's concept and BMS made it better... oh, and cheaper too. I personally use the BMS CAI setup and it's fine. Again, most people will say that the greatest (and most noticeable) benefit of a CAI is sound. Yes, you will get more of a "roar" but it's not about that... it's about WOT. It's always been about WOT... CAI's are most beneficial at speed and WOT. It needs air rammed into it and a wide open throttle for the benefits to be seen. (period)

I've been thinking about the BMS one myself, but not sure about the added maintenance of having to clean it all the time. Plus I heard you actually lose some lower end torque with a CAI.

Madman's dynos prove a WOT HP gain- no losses.

I'll have to dig up my older dyno's - there was a slight increase in HP (7) and a slight increase in TQ. If I recall, it was balls hot in the dyno (100 degrees at least) and we were heat-soaked as well. The removal of the CAI was done to see if it made any difference between runs. W/o the CAI, the hp/tq numbers were slightly down, put it back on and another run proved the slight gain. You guys need to dyno between mods to see if you are getting your money's worth - you need a stock baseline dyno, and then build upon that. every config is different. there are even some factory freaks out there - a good dyno (n55 factory baseline s/b around 290/290 but they are more typically 280/280-ish)

bottom line, do ur research, don't rely on just one account. get a dyno at a reputable shop - stick with that dyno shop and equipment - and dyno between mods. Altitude, humidity, and ambient temps will all play a factor in numbers as well. This is why people who dyno at sea-level with warm/hot humid tems dyno lower than folks in more arid higher elevations. It's all about air/fuel mixture and density. What I'm trying to say is that it's all relative.......

Turbos seem to spool faster...maybe it's just me. Noise it makes is music to my ears! Worth the $$ alone!
