Retro issue Combox /6FL/6NR

Hi Guys,

So I have installed the combox, wired the BT antenna replaced my usb/aux socket. Sourced the 12v to my fuse box and confirmed power on the combox.

So afterwards I coded my VO to change the build date from #0909 to #0911. I also added $644 $6FL, $6NR and $6NF.
Then I recoded my CAS, NFRM and CIC.
The results was:

- Telephone option available in CIC
- Connected app
- Plugin
- Contacts

But the BT stays greyed out. Also when I connect my iphone 5 to the usb socket it charges for 1 sec and then "disconnects" and that repeats every 10-30 seconds. When I connect my phone to the usb in the dash it just charges as usual.

Any clue what this could be? The combox is also not shown in NCSexper as ECU... quite some new ECU's popped up after the VO change but no combox....
I'm getting nuts after just removing half of my interior...... :-)

When I did my combox retrofit I had to update the software (dealer can do or bimmerretrofit) in the CIC because it was from 2009 and didn't know how to talk to the combox.

Combox shows up as CMEDIA in the ECU list... in INPA it will show up as TEL/ULF
Check the software on the CIC..

Also, you have to CODE your VIN to the Combox, else it will not work.

I am hearing it first time that you have to code combox to your vin.
In my case, I will have a cic from donor car. Will I be coding the combox with my car vin or donor car vin (not changing the vin on cic)?
And can you kindly shed some light how to change vin on combox?
Thanks.

Combox might work with donor VIN as well..I am not sure...

Combox is coded to your car's original VIN, not the CIC VIN.

But anyway, here is the procedure :-)

> Create an SSD file for your car with your VIN in it.. (Make sure all the options are included so that NCS can load CMEDIA ECU.)
> Fire up NCS in EXPERTENMOD ->VIN/FA from file.-><your SSD file>-> back.
> Code CMEDIA .

That should now code your combox with your VIN in the SSD.

For people wondering what an SSD is, send me your VIN and FA and I will send you an SSD file.

A sample ssd is attached.

Rename the extension to .ssd
Attached Files
File Type: txt sample-ssd.txt (307 Bytes, 355 views)

Will do! Super thx....

I think my combox vendor already set the vin of the car. But I will check first for CMEDIA ecu and report back about that.

Do you use $644 or $633 for Phone with BT?
Also do you require to add $620 (voice control)?
Are you actually changing the production date, or just simulating it in SSD file?

Many thanks Deep.
I am but confused, as most of the people on the forum are saying to use a VIN from the car which actually had all these, otherwise you'd get error.

Not sure how true is that?

I have done numerous coding but coding learning business never ends

I have added 644, my car did not come with BT preparation.
I did not add 620, should I?
To adjust the production date I changed to VO to #0911 and afterwards I tried #0910.
I have performed Cas and NFRM FA_write and afterwards SG_Codieren and SG_reset for CAS, NFRM and CIC. Finaly I did SG_codieren for complete car.

The CMEDIA is still not showing up... checked power: 12v is there, is use pin 1 and 2 on combox 26 pin connector. MOST has been connected to LWL from COmbox. No MOST errors, everything is still working, besides the new 6FL and 6NR menu items, the error on mssing phone or in case of telephone grey BT items in BT settings menu.

Have you added Combox into the VA?
Also use 0311 production date.
Add:
Combox into VA
$620 voice control
$633 BMW phone prep (try this rather trying $644)
$7SP

Store the new VA in CAS and FRM.
Code CAS, FRM and JBBF to reset and report back.

Ok..

1. Have you added 6vc?
2. Try 0914 -> guaranteed to work on e9x cars
3. Pin 2 for what??? Pin 1 is +12v (10A) (30g) pin 2 power not needed
4. Sorry , what is LWL?

IF all is working, post your fa.trc

Not necessarily needed (you only need a VIN for BMW Online which has it active on CIC)
I can say from my experience:
My car originally had this : 609, 620, 644.
I retrofitted CIC and Combox, and made my own SSD. Added : 614 , 6vc, 6NR, 6NF, 6FL and coded (and still code) the CIC and Combox using SSD.

My CAS and NFRM is still the original FA..

1) No... not aware that this is required, will add it.. it's a dummy value?
2) Will try that!
3) pin2 is actually for telematics.. (20amp) but not required by my understanding for media, media uses pin 1 for 12v
4) LWL = Most hub, near right rear seat... I pluged the most cable from the combox in there.. just double checked with a bmw tech.. most ring is correct connected...

6VC is THE code needed for Combox...

If you do not have 6VC you will never get combox!!!

6VC added.. recoded CAS, NFRM and CIC... in NCS media is now shown as module.. but still no CMEDIA...

Also checked with a Iphone4 on my USB... same as with Iphone5... 1 second a connection and then disconnected...
Within telephone configuration menu of CIC I now have an extra option: Phone 2... next to BT...

But all phone stuff is still grey....

#0914 was not accepted by the way, neither 0913 and 0912
