strange warning symbol

number 188 , says, too high a gear for the low engine speed.

Iirc i was doing 30 mph in 5th gear i think, is this normal, has anyone else seen this ?...i could understand if i was driving a lada but the 335i plods along at low speeds easily

i quite often driving 30mph with 5th gear and never had message like that.

i get it when im not going fast enough for the current gear when using cruise control.

aaaah yes thats right i was in cruise control, i just set it at 30 because of all the cameras.
General consensus is its nothing to lose sleep over then?

All those waring symbols are just BMW dumbing down for the US market...so I've been told!

Trouble is you need to buy a book so you can decypher them.

it's to stop the engine labouring...on manual cars it shows what gear you should be in and 30mph is 3rd usually

In a manual transmission model the dual mass flywheel is working very hard in these conditions to cushion the drive.

It still feels very smooth and un-laboured because the vibration is being absorbed by the springs in the unit, I would imagine they fitted the light to stop you from doing this.

Yeah nothing to worry about. I get it when in cruise control, slow down using cruise control and don't change gear to match.
