Police Speed Guns on Motorways

Saw a Police officer in one of those "Police Vehicle Only" Ramps on the M4 yesterday.
Pointing a handheld speed gun down a long straight section.
Do they have the ability to video?

Would they stop you there and then? or could they still send something through the post?

I doubt they'd pull you over onto the hard shoulder to give you a ticket

If anything, through the post.
Otherwise I think they would of chased you down already if you were doing 180mph!

If you were speeding and they scanned you, it will come through the post within a week normally.

Yup. It only records speed. It does not take a photo or video for evidence so they need to pull you there and then.

Looks like you got away with it. That's you on 8 lives now.

Not necessarily. The ones used in vans or hand-held LIDAR units can take a photograph. I had a photo for 80 mph (for fuck's sake) on the M1 and that was the same scenario.

They would normally pull you over. i got pulled over on the M4 and ticketed and also on the A3 in the same circumstances but that was a while ago so maybe they can post it to you now.

Depends on the circumstances entirely.Ordinarily,an officer would be transmitting information to another vehicle-a stopping vehicle who would then deal with the member of the public-issuing warning, ticket or summons etc.
You could be stopped on the hard shoulder or taken off the motorway at a convenient place-again circumstances dictate...
The information recorded on the handheld will (should) be recorded correctly and can then enable the officer to nip at their convenience. This record will (should) be filed and available for scrutiny at court if necessary.
Regarding recording of the evidence,if it was simply an officer with a handheld device, unlikely their will be video/photographic evidence.
Therefore, you may have had your speed recorded and if it was over a certain threshold, you may still be sent an nip...

No ones asked yet,so I will...................

How fast were you going?

From experience, anything over approx 95 on a M/way would of had you on the hard shoulder with a blue flashing light in the rear view.

I do it for a living .. and no they don't have to stop you at the time.

They can simply note the index, the distance, the speed shown by the laser ... the calibration checks they carried out before they started, afterwards and show the units calibration date in a report book + get an NIP sent to the reg keeper.

To be fair though I have never known anyone do it. I have only stopped people when using a hand held Laser ... as you would get questioned on how sure you were re the index if the car is doing xxx speed ! Doesn't mean it can't be done though

Saw another pair standing on a bridge with a hair dryer this morning. Bloody everywhere at the moment. What's the deal?
