335i HPFP HELP

Hi guys its been a while, I have come back to the fold with a 57 plate 335i with 38k on the clock. I am experiencing some issues when hitting high revs where the engine goes into limp mode. Once the car is restarted it's fine again, been doing some research which all points to the HPFP I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same issues. Also I have seen that BMW warrent the HPFP for 10 years or 120k miles and wasn't sure if this was just in America or would BMW offer this to in the uk or would I be forking out a lot to get it fixed. Thanks guys

Get the codes checked. Sounds typical of the boost solenoid which is cheap, or possibly a dodgy boost cable.

Worse if you try to go full throttle in gears 3+ as that's usually where the full boost is.

Right then guys had the codes read and it is saying that there are no error codes??? tried getting the car to do the problem again but it couldn't get it to happen again. I would have thought the ECU would have logged the error codes what to do now?

Not running a tune on the car, used a Launch Creader Professional CRP123 didn't show up any faults. Will try and find someone with another reader and see if that might show it. Also when driving I can hear a rattle from the exhaust at low revs don't know if this is normal for a 335i ?

Well if it is going into limp mode your scanner should be showing a limp mode code! Get a bluetooth or wifi dongle and some software for your phone to read the codes. There are some threads on this forum about them I think.

Clean vanos solenoids

Also sounds like you have a vacuum leak - check/replace the vac lines

I'd say the 3100 is as a result of the Vanos code, I had both when my solenoid crapped out last month. Fourth gear pulls seemed to pop up with an

My thoughts on the vacuum leak were in relation to the WG rattle. Vacuum issues dont show up easily in the codes and often manifest in boost under/over target and other niggles. Worth replacing the hoses anyway - a few pennies and 30 mins of your time..

I personally wouldnt replace the Vanos solenoids until the code pops up again. Cleaning and swapping them over may solve the issue.

There is one on here somewhere.

I'm on the app so can't search/link easily. Do a quick search and it should come up.

I bought mine from Bmminiparts not too long ago. I replaced mine as soon as I got the codes and didn't even bother cleaning as I didn't want to risk camshaft bearing ledge wear.
