Engine Oil Question - Possible Mix?

So today I just got the service light saying I need to add a quart of oil.

Problem is I just bought the car and don't know what type of oil is in it right now, and I am going out of town soon and don't have time to get an oil change.

Would it be safe to go to the dealership and pick up a quart and just add it?

Yes, or swing by a super-Walmart and see if they have Mobil 1 0w40. Or your local autozone advanced auto parts store.

I would do a full oil flush, oil filter change as you never know what previous quality oil was in the car incl the filter choice is yours of course.

I did it multiple times it should be fine as long as it's a recommended oil from bmw don't remember which but I'll try and get the link it's here somewhere.
Edit: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Owner/SyntheticEngineOils.aspx
That's the link you should be able to find at auto zone or other auto parts store or even get bmw oil from dealer if you want
