All suburban city driving, no highway. My car settles in at 19.6mpg and I drive like the average person normally.

I pay attention to it because that's a good measure of how the car is running, not for economy reasons. When you drive a car every day, gradual loss of power goes unnoticed. There could be something wrong with the car that could get worse and more expensive to fix if you don't tackle it on time. I check mpg of all my cars regularly and even keep an app on my phone for that.

I agree with you , but I wont have this car long enough for it to really matter.

Coded the damn kombi yesterday so I lost all history driving. I do remember seeing 14.9 friday after work. A 5 min drive to the train station. No HW at all. Barely do 5 miles a day.

On my E92: 16 mpg shortly after I got it and was just loving all that power. I'm used to it now and don't just floor the gas that much any more. Normally, these days, I get about 20 mpg in city and suburb driving, and 28 to 30 on the highway (75 - 80 mph cruise control), depending on whether the route is hilly or flat.

On my 1986 560 SEL: 8 to 11 mpg all the time. It's huge old car and it's very thirsty.
