Question Reloacating head unit to glove box?

Is there a how to anywhere?

I've searched like crazy but it seems like there is bits and pieces of info scattered through several threads. Normally this wouldn't be an issue to piece together but most of the info in these threads conflicts each other or is very hard to understand if your not a audio pro, lol.

I consider myself a novice audio guy but far from a noob.

What I'm trying to accomplish is, install a 7" galaxy tab where my factory HU is and relocate my HU to the glove to retain my assist, PDC and other functions. The galaxy tab will only be used to run NAV and a music library through the AUX function.

From what I researched, the radio harness, antenna, and the fiber optic cable has to be extended to retain all the features I listed above.

My car details are in my sig and I'm unsure of what specific HU I have. It says BMW Professional on the HU but there are no tweeters at the bottom of the A pillars.

Hope I explained this thoroughly enough to understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

-Nick

Why remove the head unit. You can mount in the center above the air vents.
I am almost done with Nexus 7 install that has all wires hidden an uses a modified Nexus 7 dock.

Do you have any pics showing how it will look or what you have done so far? Its hard for me to imagine how a tablet would look above the vents on the dash.

Second this question. I'm interested in both of these projects, as I would like to do something similar with a Nexus 7.

Since both of you have mentioned the Nexus 7 tab. Does is also have built in GPS to run nav on it? Ive seen a lot of Galaxy tab in dash setups, but not Nexus. Any particular reason for chossing the Nexus?

The Nexus does have built in GPS for navigation. Some have mobile data options and some are wifi-only and need to download the map information from a tethered or wireless data connection before leaving the starting point.

I just prefer Nexus devices in general, which is the reason I own that particular tablet. I also own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (on Verizon) and a Nexus 10. The Nexus 7 is used for traveling around, and I'd be interested in making a dashboard/dock to drop it in the ride to use for nav and then pull it out and take it around with me when leaving the car.

I'm running a semi-integrated N7 right now. I use a freedompop USB stick for mobile data (free for 500mb), a cheap BB-based USB DAC for audio out, and as-yet nothing for control (gotta get a trackball or mouse of some kind).

Nexus 7 has GPS. Chose it over others because it was quad core.
I'm using Co_pilot for offline maps, Also using a BT OBDII with an app called Torque.

Mine is mounted lower, but check this thread.

Are you trying to do what I did in my "fun iPad mini install" thread?

Yes. Pretty much the same thing. I never thought about just removing the face of the HU and just tucking it behind the tablet. That's called thinking smarter, not harder, lol.

Thanks man!
