I'm actually thinking about it...i have a beater that I drive several times a week, so in a way it keeps me grounded...so a downgrade wouldn't be that much of a stretch. But the downgrade would be met with a few conditions. It has to be okay looking, "modable", has the potential to look stunning. Thinking of a BRZ/FRS

I think that's out of the scope of the intent of the question (I would agree with you as well and my first thoughts were the exact same car ). I think he means more like, if you had to sell your car and get another mode of transportation so you can decide between buying gas/food/housing/paying billz.

I would buy an old Honda and just drive ish outta it to save money if I had to. I would miss having A/C tho.

I read it as "getting a cheaper car" to afford the needs rather than the wants. Either ways the BRZ is half the cost of a new 335 and would definitely fit the bill. But if you're going old then I would still get a nice looking car...S2000 for under $15k or RSX for under $10k.

I think stepping down from a late model bimmer to a bucket maybe too hard to handle for some. But I can deal, as I said I'm driving my '98 SE-R around several times a week. That car is still fast for an old hooptie

People like you give BMW owners a bad name….
By the way, the point of this thread was for people who had to give up their BMW's for a "cheaper" car because of money. Not people who had to settle for a temp car

Luckily no - although if I did have to in the future, it wouldn't be a big deal. Some people on here take their cars, and life for that matter, way to seriously. Lighten up - you'll be happier and live longer.

I would stay with a german car and I would go with an older BMW or a VW GTI if I had to get a lesser car.

Often times I wish I wasn't an auto-enthusiast because I would save a lot of money that way. In the way of mods, and I wouldn't feel the need to purchase such expensive cars. I can do it and I can afford it without any strain at the moment - but the extra money going into savings might be nice too.

I would drive a lesser car and probably still be happy, but I would still be picky about what I was choosing.

Thankfully, my parents bankroll (and control) my entire life, so I hope I never have to move to a lesser car.

Man after skimming through this thread I'm praying some people do fall on hard times. Sounds like they'd possibly end their lives if they didn't get a bmw. Lol

In my opinion a car is a car..my daily driver is a 13' Ford Fusion and I have no problem driving it. I only drive my BMW when the weather is nice since it's a convertible..I would have no problem getting rid of the BMW if I had to. It's just a car...I would not trade my home to live in an apartment however, but that's not what we're talking about.

Nope, but I had to give up the idea of purchasing either a 2009-2010 M5 or 2013 M5 in order to pay my daughter's tuition. So, I settled for a used 135i, then 335i. She is almost done...

I have more respect for someone who buys a "piece of shit" Chevy Malibu and loves it than someone who had a Bugatti Veyron and treats it like another one of his toys.

Well said!

And not everyone wants to show their money. There are some people who have $100k in their checking account and drive "Malibus" LOL.
