Shipping tyres from Tirerack

Just wondering what is the most recent shipping cost that you were charged from tyre rack for 4 tyres?

I'm at the stage where the tyres are nearly bald so I need tyres real soon. I've got a quote from Tirerack $400 to sydney for 4 tyres.

I'm looking at getting Goodyear F1A2. for 225/35/19 and 255/30/19 or 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 either size set will fit onto 225m 19 "wheels..

Or can anyone point out where can they get decent pricing tyres in sydney? Tempe, Taleb? But had friends that had experiance with them. I generally go to Jaxquickfit in artarmon to see costa.

I have gotten a couple of sets from StGeorge tyres and never had an issue. In fact have been quite happy and would recommend them. TBH I couldn't be farked dicking around with tire rack anymore.

Don't order 4 at once, do them in pairs! Tirerack ships in pairs anyway. The reason for this is that 2 tyres won't attract Aus customs fees ie less than $1000, but 4 will for sure.

Order them 2 weeks apart so customs stays out of your shit!

The prices you can get good tyres from the US will not be matched by the price gougers here...

$358.75 to Brisbane a few months ago. I also made the mistake of ordering 4 at once and paid a few hundred in import duty

Guys,

Just wondering too whether has anyone tried the Continental ContiSport 5P?? I can get it quite cheap with Tempe tyre. I know I was skeptical about tempe but their pricing is very competitive. I can get $1450 fitted for 225/255 on a CS 5P tyres. F1A2 Cheapest I could get is $2200 with tempe again.

I'm trying to search for the difference between the CS5 and the CS 5P but can't find much details. Apparently CS 5P are the newest tech for conti.

Can anyone share their input?

For outright grip and performance the conti's don't seem to fare as well as the F1's or michelins in most tyre comparisons, but having said that they are still a good all round tyre generally with good wet weather safety performance.

Are the F1's $750 better though... It's all a matter of perspective.

When comparing tyre a vs tyre b, one might pull the car up 2 metres sooner but costs $750 more. Those 2 metres could be the difference between running up the arse of a car in front of you in traffic or pulling up in time and avoiding an accident.

That's generally why i put the best tyres on that i can afford, even on my 'beater' type cars i have owned.

Fair call Shane. I'm having mixed reviews between here and the states. Others say that the Conti Cs5P is quite similar with the PSS. But in terms of price if I could get F1 A2 for $1450 fitted will be sweet as that is what I wanted initially but then Now it's $150 more and it's an imported tyre from tirerack going thru evan in north melbourne.

Didnt u get your tires for Somewhere around $1400 too shane?

+1

I purchased Michelin PSS from tirerack mid last year. I split up the purchase to avoid customs fees. I had a bad experience with DB schenker with another purchase and not knowing exactly how tireracks courier works, I wasn't going to get stung again.

Combined shipping for 4 tyres was $361.25
Shipping for fronts = $280
Shipping for rears = $286

Worked out to be a couple of hundred dollars extra, but didn't want to risk paying double that on dodgy customs and clearance fees as I did with DB Schenker.

Good tip on sending them in pairs!!!

Or you could send them to different addresses if you wanted them to arrive at the same time I suppose?

Hey there,

I'm currently running CS 5P 235 & 265 on 19" 313's.
Very quiet, good in the wet, much better ride than the Bridgestone RF & good wear (currently done 30,000kms on the rears) will go maybe another 5,000kms. By the way I did 40,000kms on the Bridgestone RF's.

BUT

NO DRY WEATHER STRAIGHT LINE GRIP!!!!!!!

I hope this helps.

Hey,

Thx for the input. I think I have decided to get the CS5P. Yeah the RE050A is really crappy during rain ! and just do not dare to drive that car out simply because not much feedback on the road !

It had never occurred to me to get tyres from the USA. As a matter of interest where do you get them mounted and what does it cost per tyre?

A bit late perhaps but for info, I bought my set of Michelin PSSs from Tire Rack in mid-June and for a set of 225/255 19”, the shipping came to US$280 for the full set. So your quote was much higher but I understand that size is somehow less expensive than a set of 235/265s. As the total cost was >$1K, I was charged about $242 in Customs fees made up of the import charge, GST, AQIS entry charge, electronic lodgement fees and Customs document fees – they sure know how to hit you. Doing two at a time will save you all of that.

The slight hassle with Tire Rack is they don’t take cards – you need to do a direct deposit to their bank which is easy if you do electronic banking and have that set up for your account. To their credit, TR provide very thorough paperwork so there are no delays at Customs, as long as you pay the charges immediately.

I understand TR has some great pricing on the F1A2 atm which could make it attractive for some.

Any tyre place will fit and balance for you - I was charged $20 per here in Canberra.

Hey take for the input!

Yeah $370 is crazy for 4 tyres to be shipped. I find that MPSS is really over the top performance grip for the amount that you are paying here!!! on TR it's a difference of $200usd for 4 tyres.

Any place can fit them for you generally they charged $25 on average.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports are from $850-$1000 each per tyre here in Australia for 19'' 255x30 and only $274 each in USA more than 3 times the price for here, we are getting ripped off.

When I ordered my Pilotsports through tirerack as a 4, I paid over $300 in postage, then smashed with customs on top of that and then paid to have them fitted and I still saved over $300 than buying them here... that's not small change

Dont mind me asking how much you paid in total? I't sfunny how PSS and CSC5P are almost the same price on TR and over here it's a world of difference.

Long Beach CA to Sydney.

He has a tyre contact in Long beach.

ABC-99G (Gerry) used his contact to buy pirelli's for his E92 M3 (he had prices from tire rack etc and was happy with the price)
