BMW Revises Recommended Oil Change Intervals to 10,000 Miles for 2014+ Models

COMMENTS

BMW has changed its long time recommended oil change mileage intervals for all 2014 models and beyond. The changes apply to all vehicles produced from July 2013 on.

Previously, BMW recommended a 15,000 mile / 24 month Condition Based Service interval, but as of July 2013, the new basic interval will be every 10,000 miles / 12 months. This applies to both gasoline and diesel models.

The Z4 roadster, M5/M6 and ActiveHybrids have some special recommendations, which you can see in the announcement and charts below.

They need to milk up their service income. lol.

I haven't changed my oil for 13 months, CBS triggered of course. I don't think that it will fail to reach 200000 miles.

Well, I've seen a bunch of oil sample analyses that recommend 10,000 intervals. I'm not sure how Black Stone reaches this conclusion, but remember BMW is gonna foot the bill for most of the oil changes as a result of the paid maintenance program. I'm not sure how many people use the dealership after the paid service ends.

60,000 for the plugs also seems consistent with a lot of Indy shop recommendations. Again I'm not sure how they came up with that number but I don't think it's a coincidence that BMW picked the same numbers that many others are recommending.

I think this one was really needed. Mine didn't make it to 75K miles , so the 100K miles was optimistic. I had a lot of issues with 3 cases of bad spark plugs/coils. I wouldn't be surprised that the bad spark plugs caused the coil to act.

Very interesting. Of course the added changes will be factored into the price of the car. Too bad we won't know why this change of heart. Many will suspect it's to give more work to the dealers (think of BMW holding the extra cost for these changes in escrow which is later disbursed to the dealership as the changes are performed), and others will use it as justification for doing mid-OCI oil changes on their current vehicles as well a proof that BMW was wrong with their extended OCI.

You guys are forgetting the 100k interval for spark plugs was with the non-turbo engines, 60k is inline with what is has always been.

Actually, I thought it was 50K before and 40K for PPK?

Or is it?

Looks like the higher mileage recommendations hold for vehicles mfg'd before July 2013....or am I nuts?!?!?!?

BMW has dumbed down engine quality?

I wonder if BMWNA is moving to LL04, and with all engines being direct injection they had to cut back on the OCI.
