Question N55 catted downpipe experiences anyone?

Any guys experience here with a catted downpipe in Cali?

Since the N55 has just 1 big cat in the downpipe and no secondaries I was wondering what the results are when I exchange it for a Wagner, CP-E or whatever downpipe with a 200 cell cat.

My car doesn't have to be smogged until 2017 according to the 6 year rule but I don't want the smell and CEL in my dash.

Thanks!

Anecdotal evidence of 200 cell "race cats" clogging very quickly. No experience myself but

Really? Haven't heard anything like that, but I've got no experience.

What would make a HFC clog more than the OEM since they are less restrictive? What exactly is 'clogging'?

Genuinely curious. The only reason to go HFC is for the smell as far as I can see.

Yeah, I'm trying to read up on it but haven't come across this clogging issue too.

Well, here in California they are pretty anal about car emissions and I don't mind paying $650 for a catted one if it keeps the smell out and doesn't throw a CEL.

Wondering what the power differences people have noticed but from the looks of it nobody is driving one.

Challenge makes a HFC DP and said no one has thrown a CEL except maybe one person and that the difference is about 5whp.

Most people are running tunes for their aftermarket DPs that auto delete the codes. I'm not sure if a HFC DP would pass Cali emissions as they're pretty stringent and don't just look at codes from what I've read.

I have a vishu n55 catted downpipe...love it. 100 cell i think. Special order. Couldn't be happier. Got some great power, maybe 10hp less compared to a straight downpipe, wihtout all that smell of a regular downpipe i'm as happy as can be. You never notice it! No check engine light at all!

Ah nice, thanks. I just read on Vishnu's page the 200 cell catted DP is $695. Not too bad at all!

How is the noise?

I don't think I meant "clogging" per se. Rather, the shoddy aftermarket cat material breaks apart after a short while and clogs up the exhaust. Maybe I imagined it but I swear there were posts on the N55 or N54 forum about it.

Noise is good. I should take a sound clip. Its fine for work, not too much louder than stock, but still gets the job done

Well, I guess I should ask Vish for some insides on the cat material used.

I would prefer having no smell and no CEL for my daily driver regardless of what tune I have and if it adds some noticeable HP and TQ then even better.

Sound clip would be appreciated!

I have the Cp-e Catted and I love it, even with the auto clear turned off it throws no CEL, has a little smell but not bad at all, and its a lifetime warranty.. no clogging? And I run 95 octane with a 91 and 100 mix. Great sound and power!!

Good Luck!
