Vanguard or BMW Performance

Purchased a 2011 335 sedan last month, already got the cobb accessport but im looking for a better sound / more power so obviously an FMIC / charge pipe will be on the way soon but im having trouble picking either a Vanguard Catback or the Genuine BMW Performance exhaust, any takers?

I put the BMW PE on the day I picked up the car (2011 335 xdrive) and it sounds perfect, any louder and it would be too much. No drone on highway either.

I had the same dilemma a couple months ago. I looked at sound clips for hours and was pretty dead set on the vanguard full system. It was solved when I finally heard a vanguard in person. I ended up w/ the PE exhaust.

The vanguard to me sounded like a refined Honda exhaust, like a Fujitsubo or Mugen kind of sound. I mean it was nice but it was a little noisy while under load and under lighter acceleration inouts. The PE retained the 335s exhaust note but with an added punch and rumble to it. You'll like the PE more..but you definitely need to HEAR these things in person to truly see which one you like.

Just to let you know, the 335is exhaust with the black tips is not as loud. I almost accidentally bought it from tisher, cuz it was $600. I have PE with AR catless DP and its amazing! Loud when you step on it but quiet when cruising. There was someone on here who made 2 videos. One was just PE the other was PE + AR DP. Search it on youtube and I'm sure you will find it, he puts the camera on the passenger seat.

I would shoot you where you stood if I caught you trying to steal my Vanguard.

I get to do back to back comparisons all the time (I work at a dealer, and the PE is more popular here, obviously). No one who has listened to them both thinks the PE sounds better. Back to back, the PE sounds raspy and unrefined - almost tin-canny.

That being said, the Vanguard is definitely louder. Cold start is really loud, but once warm is totally livable.

Windows down through a downtown section or tunnel is pure sex. The vanguard really shines on an N55 (vs N54).

Best thing to do is try to hear them in person and pick what YOU like. Everyone is going to give you a different answer and its usually suggesting whatever they have. Personally I like my deep raspy PE exhaust. To me the vanguard doesn't sound as good under acceleration. Purely my opinion. My PE paired with a catless downpipe, it sounds amazing; TO ME; I've had ppl say they love it, and I've had ppl tell me I need to put the stock DP back on. Youtube doesn't do either of these systems justice considering videos were probably shot with average cameras and are now being played thru a laptop's speakers.

Totally understandable, ive only heard vids on youtube of both exhausts, i do like the PE more than the vanguard, only thing that catches my attention is the tips on the vanguard look better than the tips on the PE, still wont make a difference cause ill be getting the pe

^ That is a more-current video.

Also, here are my tips on the BMW PE.
I guess it's a win-win situation for you now!

And.... an old video that sounds good at low RPMs.

I've realized how much change my car has gone through..

I've never heard this answer before.. Usually, PE > Any other N55 exhaust.
You must work for Vanguard, not BMW. Lol

My car does sound like a turbo diesel. I have noticed too. I love it.
On WOT it sounds like a supra (says my friend). Hahaha

Will the 335is exhaust work with the N55? Not familiar with how different the exhaust piping may be between the two.

That's because it's very rare to be able to hear them side by side.

Since I work at a dealership and have a Vanguard, I have requests ALL THE TIME from people who bought the PE to listen to them side by side (I have no problem with that).

Maybe 1 in 5 don't walk away doubting their PE purchase. The PE just sounds dirty in comparison. IMO, a vanguard with a catless dp sounds like a Ferrari 355 mixed with a FBO Supra. Deep, smooth idle but exotic WOT sounds with tons of pop and gurgle on decel and throttle lift off.

You guys are gonna make me take a video. Sadly, I only have a crappy iPhone 4S to shoot with, and I'm not sure it will do either exhaust justice. Actually, if anyone has any tips for posting a video shot with iphone to youtube that would be great - I'm a newb with that stuff and the last time I tried it, the only way I could make it a reasonable size was to make it horrible resolution (looked like an Atari game, and the sound sucked).

Yes it will they are all the same. But the performance exhaust is louder than the IS exhaust.

Oh ok thanks, I'm not necessarily interested in it being louder, I like the sound of the stock exhaust actually just want a little bit more.

Send a message via Skype™ to FrankiE90
vanguard has similar design as the HKS exhaust -
light - adjustable tips - bolt on and go.

sound will be different with catless dp and tune.
they're both good choices - i like the vanguard tips better than
the PE. PE is OEM.. Just choices -u'll be happy with either in the
end, if u pick'd up an Ebay no name exhaust then that's another thing.
