Rules for breaking in the e90?

This is only my 2nd post on this site but I think it's such a great resource for prospective buyers and current owners. I leased a 2001 325i (e46) and turned it in in 2003. It was painful to give up because I loved that TiAg car.

Now I'm considering the 2006 325i seriously. I have 2 questions somewhat unrelated but I'm hoping I can get answers:

1) What is the break-in period and what can you do and NOT do during this time (go over 100mph, redline the car, etc)? I didn't pay any attention to break-in on my previous 325i and didn't have any problems.

2) Is it true that the 325i is being rebadged to the 328i for model year 2007? If so, what does this mean for price and engine specs? Does anyone know?

I apologize if these were discussed on other threads - just let me know where they are - I couldn't find anything on the break-in period.

Thanks!

Break-in is until 1,250 miles. Don't go over 100MPH or 4,500RPMs during this period. Just be gentle and smooth in every aspect (clutch work, braking, throttle) and you'll be good. The closer you get to reaching the break-in point, the more relaxed you can get with these guide lines.

At delivery in Munich, I was told simply not to go over 4000 rpm and that 180 km/h was perfectly fine. So, for the first 2000 km, I didn't break 180. I was also told to vary the rpm, so I did that quite a bit, it was a good excuse to accelerate.

Not until BMW say so, but the answer your question is a VERY possible yes.

When the e46 was launched in 1998, the 6 cylinder cars were 323i and 328i. It was a little while later when the engines were upgraded to 325 and 330.

An upgrade will no doubt come but the new N52 engine is not yet one year old so I think it will still be a little while before any upgrades. However, progress never stops. So for 2007, anything is possible. Just over 1 year away.
