For the price....I'd take the M4 thank you very much.

Alpina rear spoilers look crap too!

But the front looks definitely nicer than the normal 3 series.

If you say 54K quickly Kev it doesn't sound too bad!

That's a quick car (B3) - 440lbs of torque is considerably more horses than the current M3 has, and at 4.2 sec - 0-60 is only 3/10ths slower than the M3.

As Monkeyboy said in the vid, the M4 will have to be pretty special in all respects to compete against the B3, although the wardrobe of the Alpina is beginning to look dated.

Nice car, looks good on track.

I'm guessing it will seem like a bargain next to M4 prices.

Similar to a delimited 335i with these power levels (182mph ish).

Slightly higher due to the gearing of the 8 Speed Auto.

It doesn't take much to spec a 335i up to and north of 50K, a B3 at 54K looks a good buy in comparison.

Not really an Alpina fan but this looks very nice...but the LSD is still a £1800 option and with a few extra ticks in the options box take it to over £60k!! Think I'll be sticking my old outdated E90 for a while yet.

But the twin turbo N55 unit looks lovely, wonder how different the block in the new M3 will be.

I think it's actually an N54.

Alpine bought the rights to continue production of the N54..

Monkeyboy states it's based on the N55 block.

That looks good. I'd like to own an Alpina one day to see what ones like. I didn't used to see the point of them.

I initially thought it was a N54 block but the Alpina stats say the engine features Valvetronic, which was used in the N55 and not N54. The new B3 is also more efficient than the old B3 which clearly used the N54 block.

http://www.alpina-automobiles.com/en...owertrain.html

http://www.bmwblog.com/2013/03/05/20...na-b3-biturbo/

But regardless which block is used, cannot see the M3/4 having that much more power...so in 2-3 years time it could be a very good used buy!

It looks like it is an N55

Strange to make an n55 with twin turbos and a forged crank.. When you own the rights to continue building the N54!

Mislead by topgear - who'd have thought it!

I though it was an n54 inside as well....

Looks like they've done a pretty good job tuning the n55.

My issue is with the price really....at 54k....hmmmmm

I am warming to this!

All depends on new M3 pricing ....

3 tents slower than an M3, M3's don't do it in 3.9 Ian.

'Car & Driver Magazine' got a E92 M3 with DCT 0-60 in 3.9 secs.

It wasn't tied down with guy ropes though!

I remember now. It was with a roll out and it definitely is dubious,

The power/weight really nullifies that time as its actually impossible.
