Been on the Atkins diet apparently and lost 12.5 stone approx.

I would have expected a bit more than an extra 16 odd horses over the older E92 M3, but at least it has a bit more torque (+100lbs) worth talking about.

430BHP is lame?

That is well in excess of what you get in most 991s

Let's hope the torque and the way it produces the power means it's fast and a great drive.

Maybe i should say this, that the new Generation M3/M4 has not have enough improvement over the old version to impress me to make me 'Must Have' the upcoming M3 cars. Before,when i was expecting the power to be up to around at least C63 power level, or just a shy of the GTR power will make this a beast and a MUST have.

And ofcourse there are people who will say there is alot more than power...i can't think of anything else.

only an extra 16 bhp over the last model??!!!!...

When AMG is coming out with c63 ....507 edition and you have 550bhp GTRs and 991 Porkys around...

How will the new M4 compete or impress....I'll have to see...

It's a couple if hundred kilos lighter than a C63 mate.

I ain't interested in it anyway, not an E92 M3 either as its soft compared to the E46 M3.

With regards the 430bhp, yes not much of an increase but .......... power-to-weight is much more than the E9X with it weighing only 1500kg.

Are you guys not looking at the performance curves? This new M3 is going to feel a lot faster in every respect. Its lighter, therefore will typically accelerate and change direction better, it offers a little more horsepower, but a big improvement in power:weight ratio, which is a far more relevant value than peak hp and a lot more torque. Most important, the torque starts from way down in the rev range, so whereas the old M cars went like stink above 5000 rpm, but didn't feel particularly fast otherwise, this new M is going to go like a scalded cat from anywhere in its considerable rev range.

Look at the increase in the area under the torque curve. Its massive!

Judging by the performance curves, this new M is going to be freaking dynamite and a LOT more dynamic than the current E9x M3. What's not to like? Lame? Anything but!

I'm with Steve, the torque and turbos is what it is all about. It will feel much faster.

And DXB preferring an E46 M3 to an E92 - not sure many would agree on that. If someone can afford an E92 I think most would do it for the engine.

The M135i lapped the Nurburgring in the same time as the e92 M3.

Weighed 1515kg with 320hp

The new M3 will weigh the same as the M135i with 430bhp and an LSD (improved over the e92 M3). Not to mention CF drive shaft for less drivetrain losses etc.. In real terms this car will piss on an e92 in everyway other than the noise.

The new F10 M5 did the same over the E60 M5 - but remember is significantly heavier. Sounds like someone's been listening to Colin Chapman "Simplify, then add lightness"

To be honest I wasn't too keen on this when I first heard about it, the engine in the M5\M6 was slightly disappointing for me, yes it had more power\torque but none of the drama or excitement of the previous gen V10 and I thought this new M3\M4 with it's move to turbo power would be the same and a lazy move by BMW, lump a tuned 35i engine in it and the jobs a good un.

However I have to admit after reading the full technical details to being wrong, they have completely redesigned this engine, it is an all new alloy block which features a chargecooler to feed it cold dense air, it has over 100lbs more torque then the old engine AND it revs to 7500rpm which is pretty impressive for a turbo engine. People moaning about just a 16bhp increase are missing the picture, if the specs are anything to go by this engine will be immense and comparing it to a tuned 335i is a bit of a joke to be honest. Add to that the fact that this new version will be 80kgs lighter than the outgoing model and I don't think the old M3, let alone a tuned 335i will see which way this went. Can't wait for this to be released now, I reckon it's going to be epic.

People moaning about a 16hp increase aren't just missing the picture - they're demonstrating that they just don't get the point. Comparing it to a tuned 335i is just stupid.

This car will be brilliant and will sell very well, just as it's predecessors were and did.

I imagine the fuel consumption figures are a lot improved as well, not that many M3/4 owners look at fuel costs to make their decision but for many the poor economy of the E92 M3 was off putting.

Whats the likely cost of the 4 door M3 ??

They are quoting it's going to be 3-4k more than the outgoing model so probably looking at about 60k

I'm pretty impressed. The weight loss is great, as the e92 was looking a bit fat (that's the price of a V8) and the fact that it has a decent red line for a turbo is good also.

You can see how much the N54 was missing to be a track car with this M though. Far better intercooler and oil cooling etc. No mention on the fuel pump though :P

The engine bay looks packed though. All that gear to not make it limp like an N54 probably probably adds up to 50kg or so!

Would be good if was if CO2's are lower and be in a sensible road tax band......

The M135i is 188 so it might stand a chance of being below 225 which is the point at which the cost goes up by 200 a year.
