So last weekend I got one of those notices in the mail they target for dumbasses that basically says "Act fast and you can extend your vehicle's factory warranty to 100,000 miles." So just for kicks, I call and act like the dumbass they target. So we got through the drill, confirm the info they think they have on me.

We get to the mileage... "Mr. Efthreeoh, how many miles are on your car?" I reply "228,235 miles"... Silence on his end... then "Wow! 228 thousand miles." I say "Yeah, so when can you extend the warranty, I'm really worried I may have repairs some time in the future." He replies "Wow that's a lot of miles, I need to confirm a few things... please hold while I check on a few things..." I wait about 3 minutes. He comes back, "Well I'm sorry Mr. Efthreeoh, we can't offer you an extended warranty." I say, "yeah I know that, I was just effing with you, can you now take me off your list?"

I did something similar when someone called on my office number...it was fun. I never got called again.

I don't think they would have been covered if I didn't have the CPO warranty. The recall was done on all six injectors soon after I bought the car in 2011, but they ended up needing to be done again a few months ago. I think once the injector recall is done that's it, not like the warranty extension on the HPFP or turbos. There may have been a 1 or 2 year parts warranty on the new injectors, but I think that would have expired by the time I got them done the second time.

1 year out of warranty, and so far starter, and the belt tension. Cost was around $1,000 for both. My car has been out for little over a year. I try to put away $50- 100.00 a week for the upkeep of my car.

Bought my car with CPO in February of 2012. Ended this April.

Haven't had a single problem since I've owned it. *knocks on wood*

You can drive however far you want. Re lease or purchase the same car and the mileage is over looked.

I didn't get the extended warranty on my car. I've had it a few years out of warranty now. Most of the maintenance and repairs I'm able to do myself. I did have to take it in to have the CCC replaced, but the cost of that was less than what I would have paid for a warranty, so maybe I'm coming out ahead.

I don't have a warranty on any of my cars. My daily drive is a 2001.5 VW Passat (half year model refresh) that I bought brand new and currently has 190K miles on it. I'm not worried it does not a have a warranty.

If you maintain them and change the fluids when you should then your maintenance costs should not be too bad.

I just bought my 2007 335i with 84,6xx miles and was able to get the warranty at cost.

They charged me $300 more for my warranty than what was originally quoted so I told them i wasnt going to sign anything unless they fixed it.

During this process, i was able to look over at the screen where it showed the warranty cost to the dealership and "suggested" Retail price.

Sad to say, there was approx a $2,500 profit margin on the warranties they were trying to sell to me. The basic one (power train warranty) started at $1,700 (cost to dealer) and the best one available to me (based on yr and milage of car) was the gold package, which wholesaled at $2600 and retailed at $5400. I was able to get the Silver package at cost, $2,400...3 yrs/36k

If i were you, I'd counteroffer their warranty price their giving you by half and add $300. However, all dealerships 3rd party warranties are different but i wouldn't be surprised if the profit margins are very similar.

The reason i decided to go with a warranty was, because after much research, I noticed a trend in problems that occur with the 2007 335i. And after looking at the 3rd party coverage (silver package) i noticed most things were covered under it. I'm actually getting a few things repaired now and, after factoring in labor cost, i already recouped my cost for the warranty (water pump, thermostat, oil gasket,)

Bad financial advice for people who live in the real world.

Huh. Re lease the same car you already finished leasing. OMG, you must be kidding? Talk about bad financial advise. This one has to be on the top.

you're talking about your CPO or your 3rd party extended warranty?

Oh yeaa, I think this poll is missing a 3rd option:

3rd Party Extended Warranty...

I agree. Unless a car is brand spankin' new, I think warranty's are a rip-off. I think so long as an owner keeps to the maintenance schedule, doesn't beat the car to death regularly, and has a kitty set aside for those times when something goes south, they should be good to go.
