I now have about 3000km on the catback now since the install. The sound has deepened a bit since the beggining and it's still pretty quiet when driving normally. There is still drone at 1500-2000rpm (1800rpm beeing the worst) on my MT. I still think the catback improved flow and allowed me a couple hp more to be freed.

I placed my order for one earlier this week through Jake at Motiv and will be getting the exhaust installed Monday at Sonic Tuning. I have an n54 with VRSF catless DPs so hoping for a little louder tone without much drone. I don't have a Go Pro, just my phone but will try and get some sound clips and a review with my setup.

Installed

So the day finally came, I just got back from getting my Cobb exhaust installed by Sonic Tuning that I ordered from Jake at Motiv. Below I've included a few pictures as well as a video I recorded on my phone (hot start and some revs). As soon as they started it up after the install I knew I made the right choice. Will update later as it breaks in.

Will try and get something but I don't have much capability beyond my phone. I'll try and get something better in the next week or so.

How are you enjoying it so far? I'm looking to buy this and just curious if you are still satisfied.

Not sure why somebody would opt for a exhaust that flows less cfm than the stock exhaust.

This was COBB response:

"The 335i exhaust is true dual 2.25in pipes. This is a single 3in pipe. Math shows that a single 3in pipe has a lower cross-sectional area that 2 true dual 2.25in pipes. This is a 12% reduction in flow. With this math Is this exhaust proven to gain power?"

"Hello,

Factory turbo cars have decent stock catback exhausts. Modifying this part on these vehicles is typically done for sound or aesthetic reasons. Even with that in mind, you may make a little power but it'll be marginal. The factory 335 exhaust is not really a true 2.25in dual due to the clearance indents for bracing, chassis, etc. In the end it is a wash between which truly has the most cross-sectional area. The biggest advantage is reducing weight. It also sounds awesome and looks cool!

Makes sense, I guess with the crushed mid section and yes Cats it's prob on par. Weight reduction absolutely there is no doubt about that the stock exhaust is a pig just like all BMW exhaust. I don't think Jake is running this on his car I thought he had an E90 with a WTCC rear bumper and custom cobb muffler although i could be wrong.

For FBO levels all for it and i am sure its good quality coming from Cobb.

I still love this exhaust, every time I drive it I like it even more. As soon as you get above 3k the note is perfect. I've never actually been outside of the car to hear what it sounds like while driving by, just don't trust any of my friends, ha. At first I thought the 4in tips were excessive but they've grown on me, plus the engraved Cobb logo, angled tips and interior perforations look really good. I'd like to compare it side by side to the BMW PE with catless DPs one of these days as well if anyone is around Frederick or northern VA.

Glad to hear you like the exhaust. Not to many good reviews out there. Do you still have the drone? Did the sound got louder, deeper or just better? Still quiet at cruising speed? Thanks

The drone is very minimal. I test drove an automatic Corvette with race exhaust and it was near painful to ride in. The Cobb has a slight drone if you're in D mode and end up in 6th gear at 35-40mph (auto with Alpina), but it is not bad at all. In sport with the higher RPM and exhaust flow it sounds amazing and even has some gurgle on downshifts coming up to a stoplight. I have seen others talk about "break in" time and the exhaust sounding different with time, I didn't really get that vibe. Not sure if this was because it was a slow transition that went unnoticed or if the sound just remained the same from install.

After hearing what you said I think i'll be getting a COBB exhaust once the time for one comes. Maybe i'll finally like it more than my stock setup

How much less does the COBB setup weigh in comparison to stock or even just the PE axel back?

According to Cobb, it is 22lbs lighter than the stock setup.

Cobb Catback with catless DP's. I'll take some more videos later. I will say, I love this exhaust. Sounds great, and even with catless DP's, it's not too loud, maybe only on the cold start... Ok definitely on cold start. Otherwise, very little drone, great fit and finish.

I have to say one of the better "exhaust sound" vids I have ever seen. well done.. haha! Can we get a cold start and maybe some drive away/fly bys?

Thanks for the video!

Haha, well done berns! I can second everything he said about the exhaust although I have not tested its sound while doing donuts.

Cold start video. I'll take some video of in-car and flybys later this week when I'm down south. I live in Venice, so cold start videos are about all I can accomplish here!
