Best way to launch auto 335i?

I've been trying to get 0-60 numbers an Dyno info using dynolicious, but I may be launching Wong. Average 0-60 time is 5.69 with 249 whp?

I have a 2008 rear wheel 335i auto with the BMW ppk performance tune.

How should I launch? Traction on or off? Sport or manual mode? Brake boost?

Traction all the way off, Manual 2nd gear, brake boost to 1500-2000RPM, release brake and floor gas.

Whenever I try to launch my car in second gear on the AT, I build about 2k rpm, release the brake, get lots wheel spin and then it automatically downshifts into first resulting in a horrible 60' at the drag strip, does this happen to anyone else? I am FBO though....

If your pressing your gas peddle down past the kick down then that is why its downshifting

I do this, but usually in 1st. I also try to get as little wheelspin. I don't mash the accelerator, but almost ease into it it.

Here are a few runs I did. Times aren't 100% accurate:

I never had that happen.. Interesting. But I don't punch it but aggressively ease through the throttle so I don't smoke em.

I launch in 2nd and went from average 5.5 to 4.6 S1 sport

My best was 4.4 S1 Agg.

My 60' are above 2.2 still needs some work.

But this was using the COBB, never been to the drag.

Is it safe to repetitively launch the car by holding gas + brake?

If you're launching Wong, does Wang know?! Maybe Billabong and "Ding. Dong. The witch is dead." can help.

FYI guys brake boosting is very bad for the tranny. And it doesnt help that most of us are running with well over the 332 ft/lbs of torque this Auto is rated at. Ive never done it and I dont plan to. The reason the magazines do it is because its not their car and they dont care about it. Thats why you see them with sub 5 sec 0-60 times...

Locking torque converter so the tranny doesn't see 332ft/lbs of torque.

Now am I saying its good for the transmission, no. But many people take these cars to the strip with hundreds of runs on the auto transmission and I haven't heard of many failures.

Knock on wood.

I tried this, and got slightly better results. Traction off and M2. Got 5.49 0-60, and 251HP. I still think I should have a little more whp, since I have the PPK. I was looking for at least 270.

I think I may get a better time launching with M1 - I'll try it. The car does bog down a bit at first, which I assume are the wheels spinning - so if I can minimize that, I'll get a better time.

Lol. Brake boosting will cause more wear and tear on the tranny components for sure, but it's not "very bad for the tranny." It can handle it. People launch all the time at the track with the auto running meth/upgraded turbos/E85, and have been doing it for a LONG time, some with up to 100k hard miles. A Stage 1 COBB tune is hardly pushing numbers where you have to worry about the auto's limits. Look at the Dinan tunes for example pushing COBB Stg1 numbers. Dinan is one of the most conservative tunes we can run and they approve of it

Not only that, but this transmission sees duty behind S/C V8s and TT V12s as well. Ford uses a version in their cars as the 6R80. The Mustang guys have beat the crap out of that one in the new 5.0s.

As always, practice makes perfect. Balance traction with your tires, everyone's launch will be a bit different.

Fair enough. Its your car and not mine. Brake boost all you'd like. I just don't understand the point of putting unnecessary strain on the transmission for a couple tenths at a drag strip or a 0-60 time. To each their own though.

I did this going uphill in my auto tranny 335. Brake boosted 2nd gear but only to about 1,200 RPM. Traction control off but it doesn't really matter since the tires don't spin anyway. For better traction, I have an LSD, Michelin PSS and have the Procede traction control setting to 45.

My current mods are jb4 and dci. I'm running 40% e85 and tried to do some 0-60 runs with dynolicious tonight..Traction all the way off, 2nd gear brake boosted launches.

60' times are horrible :/
Getting around 2.5seconds for 60' time
and 4.9 0-60.
I should be getting around 4.7.....need to practice my launches!

If its cold outside they aren't going to go down. Most performance tires really start losing traction below 50F in my experience.
