hahaha... this is fairly normal on very powerful BMWs.

You have a little thing called 427 ft-lbs of torque. If you step on the throttle just a little too hard, you probably trip the traction-control which means that the brakes get applied to slow down the slipping wheels. THis wears brakes fast... my dad's old 330i wore the rear brakes slightly quicker than the fronts from having a couple heavy winters and lots of traction-control action.

Some manufactures are known to have bad rotors. My Acura TSX had warped rotors after 5000km and again at 15000 km. I changed it to Brembo blank and it was still good when I traded it in at 69,000km.

same here on an E90 325i...just had the rears replaced around 23k miles. OBC says fronts still good for 9k miles which is a huge difference.

As mentioned, it might be the traction control working hard or the brake force proportioning.

Not that i had to pay or anything, but it was a little dissapointing that the brakes and rotors only lasted 12,000 miles! Thats kind of a joke...

Dont you think? Anyway with 4 new rotors, and all new brake pads front and back, she feels like day one again.

Funny, the red brake service light came on at 12k miles on my car too. Dealer changed them without drama.

I'm finding out that the pads are really soft (soft stops better). Nevermind longevity and lots of brake dust.

And if you have a (cough cough) piggyback, then you are going to activate traction control (brakes) more often and have to use more brake energy to stop. Add that to So Cal stop and go traffic....

I'm betting option #1.

Many people have had their 335's out on road courses and haven't had "warped rotors." I use parenthesis because this is the most common mis-diagnosis of failure to seat brakes and then using them rigorously.

I dont know why they would even question exceesive wear on your brakes. Part of the incentive buying a BMW is their 4yr/50k waranty on it. When i bought the extended maintence package "brakes" was their main selling point.
