Will this engine fit in my 06 325i e90?

My engine code is N52B30AE.

Soon buying an engine (code N52K) off a 08 328i.

Question is will it fit? I've asked several people on eBay who were sellers and said it would. Though, I can't find any hard evidence. The guy I'm buying from is actually guaranteeing 100% that it will fit.

If it doesn't fit, what engine does for my specific chassis?

I'm pretty sure it will, BMW would want to make as much as they can inter-compatable to keep part variation and costs down.

Eh... that doesn't really help too much. All I know is that the N52K was their new engine line to fix many of the problems from the previous models.

Also, the dealer told me that my e90 should be stock with a N52B30A engine but I have an extension "E" at the end. Weird.

Asimov asked this same question over on bimmer fest and didn't get much love.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=737763

While it's certainly possible, there are problems going from the 2006 engine to a 2008, mostly surrounding the intakes. Perhaps people here have more ideas.

Perhaps this should be moved to the N52 sub-forum?

I guarantee it will fit. How much effort it involves is another story altogether

Engine will fit, but you will have to reprogram all electronic in the car and/or replace parts of the harness and accessories. Anytime you get a different ECU you are in for a major PITA with the electronic.

He can easily take all the electronics off his current engine and stick it on top of the new one. I can't see why that would matter unless they added new electroics from the 06 model to the 08 model since their still the same body style.

If you have bad pistons you can use just the short block. If his engine needs valve work, he can swap the short block with the head ect...

Either way it'll be a very intensive swap.

Just meaning the potential cost/time of doing it is kind of like 'how long is a piece of string'. Because of the many various niggles and slight variations you may come across, then there is the software.

Might pay to call BMW and ask. Also I would ask what kind of labour time they allow for an engine swap, will give you some kind of idea what you might be taking on.

OF COURSE IT WILL FIT ITS THE SAME MOTOR

If you take it to a good BMW shop it will be no problem, its the same motor of course it will fit, certain things were improved, your not changing your ECU. (You above posters realize the ECU is a separate box from the motor with a harness that runs to it right and not a little chipmunk barking orders inside the engine??!?!!)

The valve cover, external oil separator system should be swapped over, the 325i used a different intake system (air intake, the intake manifold is the same) so that should remain (MAF sensor ect.), thats about it, it should be plug and play. Your 325i ECU will effectively run that 328i motor detuned.

A swap with a 330i motor would be a little different since it has a 3 stage intake manifold, but most people don't realize that besides that the highest and lowest output N52 motors are just tunes and exhaust, all the internals are the same, on the N52KP or "N52K" (328i) they did increase the exhaust valve steams to 6MM from 5, to help with durability, again makes no difference to the way it runs.

You can PM me and I could recommend a few places besides eBay (would never buy a motor there) that give you a 6 month warranty ect and ship the motor well packaged with everything capped off ect.

I would recommend the newest 328i motor you can find 2010 ect, I ordered a motor from this place for my 06 F150 from a 08 F150 with 50k miles got a great deal and very satisfied, some minor stuff was swapped over (intake manifold) runs like a champ.

+1. Agree. The Bentley repair manual does a great job at explaining the variations of the N52 engine in the E90 over the model years. The N52 block is the same in all versions so it will bolt in and to the trans.

finally, the voice of reason. like said above, they are the same motor with very minor differences. it will work just fine as long as you re-use some 325i specific parts with it.

any N52B30 fits. However, some DME/ECU programming (remapping) and intake parts replacement are required if you want to get reference values for HP and NM.
