First 2014 Corvette hits 200 mph on Texas Toll Road

The newly completed Grand Parkway toll road section got quite the test run this week as Hennessey Performance brought their 2014 Corvette Stingray over to test the toll system. On a closed portion of the tollway, Texas DPS State Troopers clocked the speedster at 200.6 mph, making it the first 2014 Corvette to break the 200 mph barrier.

“The road is perfectly smooth and the Corvette was very stable and easy to drive at 200 mph,” said driver and company founder John Hennessey. “I’d put the Texas highway system up against any other highway in the world, including the German Autobahn. Our roads have proven to be smooth and safe at speeds well above 200 mph.”

The Parkway section, which connects Interstate 10 with Highway 290, will open to the public on Dec. 21 and just in case anyone gets any ideas, the toll road cameras were still able to get crystal clear images of the Stingray’s plates as it blazed through the toll section.

This is why i love Texas!!!!! Very cool state to live and work.
In 12 more years, Im gonna have to make a tough decision moving to Texas/or Florida.

BTW: try doing something like this in any other state.........That would never be approved by our idiot/scared politicians.

Other states have tracks for breaking 200 mph.

I will own a C7. It's a hell of a car for $52K... Just think, some of you guys that just bought optioned up F3x 335s and 435s could have gotten this for the about the same cost..

Well, to be fair the F30/32 isn't even attempting to compete in the sports segment anymore. Maybe the M3/M4 will change that, but the F30/32 are about as soft as soft gets.

Tell that to the two friends who have to take a bus because you cant fit them into your "hell of a car".

And if it was a Z4, it'd be okay to tell them to take the bus, because "It's a BMW!"

That was just total bad ass. Keep in mind that was running up to 4th gear with basically holding the wheel with just the back of his fingers, on the stock suspension.

Then you forgot to add the price of their car into the comparison, or is that just Chevynesia? So now two $52k Vettes can do the job of one 335i for $104k. Woohooo.... they can go faster too, 200 mph.

Nope, that's a fair comparison. The point is compare apples to apples and if you are going to compare a Vette to anything BMW, is should be similar car like a Z.

Go price a Z4 with an N55 in it and compare it to a 1LT Corvette convertible with the Z51 package, and see what you come up with.
